Autry, on the other hand, did not try at all. He’d had a long day at work and then trouble with his online business, he bought and sold vintage jewelry, and when it was all over, he was just tired. He would have preferred to stay home and order out—all desire for partying gone and replaced with a desire to lay on the couch and eat chips.

If he hadn’t promised Warren several days ago that he would go with him, he would have begged off and stayed home. But that just wouldn’t have been cool, so he found a pair of jeans, a tee, and a nice leather jacket that he’d had for a few years. He looked adequate but would it be enough to get him inside Club Zephyr? He’d have to wait and see.

“There it is,” Warren exclaimed excitedly. “Oh, my god, look how long that line is.” The line stretched down the block almost to the corner. “Maybe we should have come earlier.”

“Oh well, maybe the line is moving fast.” Autry offered a positive, but Warren just rolled his eyes.

Cross had been at the door for nearly an hour, and still no sign of Ames. He was just about to call Lowell to bring Parc over from the bar to take over when he caught a strange yet intriguing scent. He’d approved a veritable herd of people in the last hour, and although they were all decent-looking individuals, none were memorable. Mostly leather jackets and jeans, which was just lazy when going to a leather club, but he wanted the dance floor filled.

The scent continued in greater and lesser degrees of potency, but he couldn’t determine the source. It was nearing nine o’clock, and after a couple more jeans and leather jackets, he told Noa no more. “They must have more than a leather jacket to get in. “Hold out for some creativity. The place is filled, so let’s get selective from here on out.” Noa nodded, and they rejected the next five people in line.

Word must have traveled because the next few were adequately dressed in interesting leather gear and looked good enough to eat. It was going to be a good night for the club. The scent he’d detected earlier was growing stronger, so he kept his attention on everyone in line. Someone smelled like heaven, and he wanted to know who.

A small man in a perfect pair of leather pants stepped up, and Cross was going to let him pass. He had the look, and the enthusiasm Cross was looking for. He stopped the young man for a moment when he detected the delectable scent on him or near him. Cross stared at him for a few seconds and then let him pass because it was not emanating from him.

“You go ahead and have a good time Warren. I’ll see you tomorrow.” The voice caught Cross’ attention, and he turned to see a slender man with dark hair and hazel eyes walking backward out of the entryway while waving goodbye to someone inside. The connection with this young man hit him hard. It was both a sudden sense of familiarity and an overwhelming need. His wolf was immediately front and center, clamoring to get a look at the young man.

“Wait.” He called to the man. Noa looked at him curiously but didn’t comment. Noa had turned the guy away because he was wearing jeans and a leather jacket. He had no idea how important this young man was and what he meant to Cross.

In that moment, he felt harried, distracted, and yet also focused and intense. He had to stop him from leaving, and Cross was prepared to chase him down if he kept walking away, but he stopped and looked back at Cross. He stood with his hands in the pockets of his jacket and waited.

When their eyes met, Cross could feel the link that existed between them. His wolf rushed forward, but he was quick to tether him so as not to frighten his newly found Fated mate. The wildness probably flashed in his eyes, but the young man would not understand what it meant. “Please, you’re welcome to come in and join your friend, if you wish.” He tried to sound casual and accommodating and not betray the frantic beating of his heart.

“Okay, sure. Thank you.” He said and started back up the stairs to the main doors. He followed Cross inside. Cross indicated to Noa that he was sticking with the young man, and Noa nodded his understanding. Lowell would get him help until Ames showed up. He wouldn’t let his mate get out of his sight in a place like this. No one was going to sample what belonged to him.

“Looks like Warren already found a couple of friends.” He laughed and gestured to the man in the tight leather pants who was currently dancing with two men, one in front and one behind. Warren was going to have a good time. Cross knew these men. They were part of his pack and worked for the Club. They were brothers, two cougar shifters who like to double team their sexual prey. They had a lot of sensual moves and plenty of sexual prowess.

“He’s in good hands, don’t worry,” Cross assured.

“You know those men?” He asked and turned to look up at Cross with those smoldering hazel eyes.

“Yes, your friend is quite safe. They won’t do anything he doesn’t want them to do.” Cross answered the question and let his eyes travel to the gorgeous young man standing beside him. He was slender yet muscular from what he could see through the well-worn, snug jeans and the way his shoulders filled out the leather jacket. He was a handsome young man, and Cross looked forward to getting to know him and pulling him into his world.
