He could no longer see a girl.

But a woman.

That hint of fearsomeness that he had seen when she had defended Isabella shone through those green eyes now.

Not a hen. Not a mouse.

A tigress defending her cub.

He had misjudged her.

And for a man like Dante Fiori, this was a terrible sin. He was never a man to misjudge or underestimate an enemy, an adversary or a potential partner.

But he had misjudged Minerva.

He had looked at her, and he had seen all that she had shown the world, which was only a facet of what she was.

He wondered what Isabella’s father had seen of her.

He couldn’t help it. Was she a tigress for him?

He despised the other man.

They were presented to the guests, but he was not conscious of what was being said, or what was happening.

There was a ringing in his ears.

They charged down the aisle and into the waiting room where he assumed that Minerva had been before.

She went over to her purse, and diaper bag, and began to root around inside, pulling out her phone.

“Eager to check your social media?” he asked drily.

“No,” she said. “I’m worried. Because our wedding is today, and I’m concerned that...” She went pale. “He texted me.”

She handed the phone to Dante.

I feel that I should come to the reception so that I can have a look at the child and see if she is indeed mine.

“Well, he’s not getting near you, or Isabella,” Dante said. “And at this point, I think we should inform the police that you have been receiving unwanted attention from a stalker. Nothing more.”

“Do you think?”

“He’s organized crime, and he’s not from here. But if he does set foot in the country, he will face legal recourse from the law here. That’s important. We must make sure that we put barriers in his way. And in the meantime, you and I are going on our honeymoon early.”

“We are?”

“Yes. We are. Somewhere where he won’t find us.”

“Where is that? Because he found me, and he found her.”

“No offense, cara, but your family is quite conspicuous, and you are known to live here. Plus, he clearly has your mobile number.”

“I didn’t give it to him,” she said. “I got a new phone the moment I set foot onto American soil again. I changed my number.”

Dante swore. “Well, it’s no matter. I own an island, but it is not in my name, and it’s hidden by a shell company. No one knows about it, and he won’t know where to look. There will be no way for him to discover our whereabouts, and I will be using private investigators to make sure I find ways to remove him as a danger to your safety.”

Her eyes went round. “In what way will you remove him?”
