She was suddenly embarrassed, because what they’d done was in a public part of the house, and while the nanny had been given instructions to stay in the nursery, there was still the possibility they could have been walked in on. Except... They hadn’t been. And she found it very difficult to care one way or another.

Dante picked her up, and began to carry her from the room, shucking the rest of his clothing as he went. The trail of clothes would be a clue if nothing else. But again, she couldn’t find it in her to care.

He took her into his bedroom, the first time she had been there since they had returned from the island. And he set her in the middle of it, spreading her across the bedspread.

She parted her thighs for him, touching herself as she watched him, looked at his body while he stood there. At his proud masculinity, at the well-defined muscles.

“You’re beautiful,” she said.

She had nothing to hide. She felt free.

Joyful.

This was sex as it was meant to be. The exchange was more than just bodies. So much more.

He came down on the mattress with her, thrusting inside her body, and she gripped his shoulders.

“I love you,” she whispered.

He growled, pulling out and slamming back home. “I love you,” she said again, in case he hadn’t heard her the first time.

He had heard.

But he was doing his best not to respond, she could tell.

So she said it. Over and over again until it blurred with whimpers of pleasure. Until she lost herself in it. In him.

Until she was certain that the feelings had come straight from her chest and wound themselves around the two of them, that it had joined in with the physical sensation. That it was a real and living entity in the room with them.

Love.

She loved him.

And she wanted him to love her back.

Wanted it, deserved it. Needed it.

If she wasn’t ashamed. No. She wasn’t ashamed.

And she didn’t feel undeserving. She didn’t. She deserved it all. Everything.

He flexed against her, his body hitting that sensitive bundle of nerves between her legs, and she cried out, pleasure breaking over her like a wave.

Love echoing in her like a storm.

“I love you,” she said, one last time before he shook and shuttered and gave himself over to his release.

And when he pulled away, she knew what he was doing.

She knew already that he was going to try to run from this like he had tried to run before.

But he had been able to get as far as he had only because she hadn’t challenged him. But she was going to challenge him now. Yes, she was. She was going to challenge him and she was going to demand what she wanted. Was going to demand everything she deserved.

“I love you,” she said again.

“I don’t know what you expect me to say to that.”

“Well, I would like for you to say that you love me too.”
