And then Inoticed another thing. My fingers were dampened by the tears that Iwas no longer able to contain.

“Ido. Even if you don’t, Ifucking love you with all my heart, Laura.”

Another hand moved up—these bitches had alife of their own—and covered my crumpled face. The blatant show of my emotions, the months-long frustration from being apart from him, everything erupted on my face.

Within amoment Zach was there, dragging his chair around to my side, his strong arms enveloping me. Imissed them, Imissed him, the warmth and his strength, his cologne. Imissed it all.

He grabbed me by the shoulders and forced me to meet his eyes. “And I’mgoing to say now what Ihaven’thad the chance to tell you before. Imade space for you, for us. Iexpanded the office staff, Ispread out my caseload, and unless there’ssome kind of emergency, I’mhome every day in time for dinner. Alonely dinner, but I’mthere.”

It amazed me to hear that two of the biggest workaholics were able to make that switch while being apart, without any guarantees to have the other one back. That our relationship that began as superficial, noncommittal, sexual to its core, had transformed us entirely. It ignited ahunger for something more than work, more than achievements. For real life to enter.

“I’msorry for not thinking about it earlier,” he said. “Thomas told me Ishould’ve talked to Erin sooner, but Ididn’tthink it’dhelp. Ifinally went to her last week when Irealized that Icouldn’tbreathe another moment without telling you how Ifelt, to lay it all out and let you know that Ihad changed willingly.”

My neck and face flushed. “Wait asecond. Thomas knew?”

Zach nodded.

“Since when?”

“Before the last time Isaw you.” He looked like akid caught shoplifting.

Igaped indignantly, prepared to launch an attack ofwhat the fuckswhen he held up afinger to stop me. “Don’tblame him for not telling you or Erin anything. He was indebted to me, had to keep one of my secrets for the years Iheld on to his.”

My mouth snapped into afrown while his grin widened.

“Istormed into your apartment that day, not thinking this through, how it’dlook from your end. Again, Iapologize and Iseriously fucking pray that you have it in you to give me one more shot. I’ll invest everything in this relationship, give you the space to grow your business, and will always clear my schedule for when you’re available.”

Waves and waves of ajoy so foreign to me swept up and down my body.

“Ireally, really, really want to be with you.” He cupped my cheeks, wiping away the new set of tears with his thumbs. “Ilove you, Laura.”

“Well, you won’thave to.”

Creases formed on his forehead, his head tilting as he tried to make sense of what Isaid. “Won’thave to what?”

“Won’thave to make special adjustments. Not alot anyway.” When his confused stare persisted, asly smile made its appearance on my face. “Ihired an assistant. Outsourced that part of my business. It took someone Icared for immensely to leave my life, for me to make that much needed change to accommodate to have him with me.”

He eyed me expectantly, an ocean of infinite depths twinkling and shimmering at me. “Does that mean then that we’re doing it? We’re going for it?”

“Yes!” Ibobbed my head up and down, my smile now breaking through to my ears.

He exhaled briefly before bending down to crash his lips into mine. Ifloated, holding on to his hands, tasting these lips I’dcraved with my tongue.

When he came up for air, he kissed my nose and hugged me tight. “Ilove you, Ireally fucking love you.”

Inuzzled his neck before saying, “Ifucking love you, too.”
