“Mr. Jensen, have you had breakfast?” Maya asked and then checked if he had other luggage.

Aaron smiled. It was so like Jim to help in their hour of need.

He made his way to Daniel’s room, where the sick man commanded the search from his bed. Aaron was amazed. Daniel would fight with every ounce of strength left in him to save Isabella. Aaron would too. Seeing her in danger made Aaron all the more certain of his feelings.

“Aaron, I’m glad you came to see me before you left again,” Daniel said.

“Have you had word yet from the sheriff?”

Daniel shook his head. His skin was a pasty gray, and his eyes were sunken in from lack of sleep. “Where are you starting out the search this morning?”

“Your own backyard. We’re gonna start here and then go down the road to where it branches off for the mine. We’ll search around the mine and make sure they didn’t decide tohide there since things are shut down. If it was Diego and his friends, they would know that area very well.”

“It’s probably a long shot.” Daniel started coughing, and Aaron wasn’t surprised when Helena rushed in with a bottle of medicine.

“You have to rest, Daniel, or you won’t even be here when they bring Isabella home.” She poured the medicine, and Daniel took it obediently, then fell back against his pillows.

“Find her, Aaron. Please find her.”

“I will. You can be assured of that.”

Daniel coughed again and struggled to get his breath. Aaron knew his time was very short.

“You must rest and be here for her when I bring her home.” Aaron met his mentor’s gaze and gave a nod. “And Iwillbring her home.”
