“I didn’t say those words.”

“Out loud.” He rests his fingertips on my clavicle and pulls his bottom lip between his teeth. “Stopover on your way someplace else, or are you here to live?”

“How is that any of your business?”

He doesn’t take his hand away. Doesn’t back up even an inch. “Stopover means we gotta fuck five ways to Sunday before you leave again. Probably means I’ll make you hurt in all the good ways.” His eyes slide back to mine. “Ya know, so you remember me. If you’re here to live, then maybe I’ll fuck you only four times and save the fifth for another day.”

“Smooth.” Amused, Tim walks away with a shake of his head, leaving me all alone with this man who doesn’t respect personal boundaries. Worse, my hunger-induced desperation makes me think, justmaybe, I’m interested.

I never once said I was a prude.

“Yes?” Arch leans a little closer. A little closer again. “We don’t even have to exchange pleasantries.”

“Wow. You provide such an incentivized package. Dirty sex with a dirty douchebag who won’t call me tomorrow.”

“Do you want me to call you tomorrow?”

“No!”

Finally, he cracks a real smile and laughs under his breath, so the air feathers over my lips. “You’re a constant contradiction, lady. You wanna be independent, but you can’t carry your own bag. You wanna be strong, but you don’t watch your surroundings when in strange places. Now you wanna have a night of mindless fucking with the douchebag you’re surprisingly thirsty for, but you can’t stand the thought of being discarded in the morning.” His tongue comes out to moisten his bottom lip. “It must be exhausting being you.”

“It is. And no to the dirty sex. I’m engaged.”

He glances over my shoulder. “To Tim?”

“Yes, to Tim. He’s my soulmate, and he’s neither a pig nor a douchebag.”

Arch sniggers and brings his eyes back to me. “You’d be surprised. So no, you don’t wanna hang out?”

“No, I don’t wanna hang out.”

“Not even for five minutes?” He slides the tips of his fingers along my collarbone, forcing the fabric away to reveal my shoulder. “I could make it worth your while.”

“Dinner’s up.” Tim drops a plate on the bar and waits for Arch to release me from his steely stare.

Arch’s throat bobs as he swallows, then he stretches his neck, tilting his head left, then right, to crack the bones.

“Minka?” Tim prompts.

Arch’s brow lifts. “Minka? Odd name.”

“Arch,” I counter with faux cleverness. “Ordinary name.”

Tim chokes out a laugh in my peripherals and turns away. “I don’t think I can marry you. Not when you stare at another man the way you are.”

“I’m not staring.” I am staring. I am absolutely, without a doubt, staring. “Come back to me, Tim.”

“Gotta work, but call out if you need rescuing. He’ll back off if you’re truly not interested.”

“I’m not interested.”

“I’m not backing off,” Archer responds at the same time. “Not when you’re wet for me.”

“Wet?” My heart stumbles inside my chest. “Excuse me? You’ve crossed over from mildly annoying and thrown yourself headfirst into a sexual harassment lawsuit.”

“Could be mildly true. Could even be worrisome…” He looks down. “If you weren’t wet for me.”

Damn, damn, damn him!
