I sat up again in alarm. Where on earth did that come from? “What?” I shook my head. “That’s a terrible idea. I thought you were smart, Mr. Investment Banker.”

He smirked. “Yeah, exactly. I am smart. And I know you won’t be able to keep this a secret from Amy, especially if she’s living with you.”

I waved my hand at him. “It’s only temporary. She and Lucas will be in their own place in no time.”

“But do you want to keep lying to your best friend?”

Yeouch. That stung. “No. But there’s nothing to know.”

Scott narrowed his eyes at me. “Oh, come on. You know she’d flip out if she knew we were hanging out.”

I huffed and looked away. “Well, not yet. I don’t want to spoil her first day back.”

He nodded. “Okay. I can understand that.”

I sat back in my chair and relaxed. At least that conversation was handled.

“But we’ll talk about this again.”
