I touched my forehead and cringed.

Now I sounded controlling. That I was giving him permission to-

You giving me permission to fuck someone else?

“Yes!” I cried out.

I smiled.

See, he gets it!

That’s what I mean, Mav. I don’t want you to change anything in your life because of me. I’ll even do the same if you want. Make it all even. I just don’t want any issues.

“Issues?” I whispered. “Oh, no, Madison. Stop. Just stop texting him.”

My fingers touched the screen again.

Sorry… this isn’t Madison texting. This is Grace!

I sent that text too!

I let out a yell and threw my phone to the couch.

When the phone vibrated I feared reading the text from Maverick.

But I had to see it.

I carefully picked up my phone and turned it around.

So you want both of us to go out and screw other people then. And the Grace thing? Not funny at all. I have to go play a game now.

And that was it.

I didn’t even bother responding to Maverick.

There were two things in life I was really good at.

The first - not committing to anything.

The second - screwing up good things because of my fear of commitment.

I grabbed for the remote and turned on my television.

I was doing something I’d never done before in my life.

I willingly turned on a hockey game.

Just so I could see Maverick.
