That’s when Mike Jr. smiled.

“What?” I asked him.

“You guys are funny,” he said. “Plus, I punched that jerk bully in the stomach today.”

“You did?” I asked.

Mike Jr. nodded. “I’m going to get grounded. But it was worth it.”

“I’ll talk to your father,” Remi said.

“We all will,” Matias said.

I gave Mike Jr. a firm handshake.

Sometimes hitting back was needed.

But sometimes it didn’t take away any of the pain at all.

Remi put a massive hand to Mike Jr.’s back and led the way down the tunnel to go find Coach.

I needed to grab a quick shower and get home.

I had a date tonight.

When I got home,I tossed my keys and the mail on the counter, it all fanned out.

I noticed the sunflower-yellow envelope right away.

Then I looked at the name.

The return address.

I rubbed my jaw.

More than curious, I grabbed the envelope and opened it.

It felt like there was a birthday card in the envelope.

But it was nowhere near my birthday.

I slid the card out of the envelope and couldn’t believe my eyes.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I whispered.

I was supposed to be getting ready for a date tonight with a woman named Jasmine.

Instead, I stood frozen, staring at a wedding invitation.

A wedding invitation from my ex.

Wanting me at her wedding?

My lip started to curl.

It wasn’t so much sending me the invitation part that pissed me off.

It was the wedding itself.

“This wasn’t part of the deal, honey,” I said as I placed the invitation down on the counter.

Ten minutes later I cancelled my date with Jasmine.

I had bigger plans in mind now.
