Chapter Six
MADISON
Icalled Zoe when I left the arena. She was at her apartment writing a new song.
My second call went to Eva.
She admitted she was long overdue for a break from writing.
A car picked me up a few minutes later and I told the driver to swing by Eva’s to get her, then we both went to Zoe’s.
On the ride to Zoe’s, Eva stared at me, wanting to ask questions we both knew I wasn’t going to answer.
“Let me ask a question,” Eva said.
“No,” I said.
“It’s not about your vagina,” she said.
I saw the driver look in the mirror with curious eyes.
“My vagina is just fine,” I announced.
“Oh, it’s a great vagina,” Eva said. “I didn’t mean it in a bad way. Oh, you’re worried about the driver. Do you like him?”
“Will you just ask me your question?” I snapped.
“Fine,” Eva said. “What would hurt worse? Getting bit in the neck or getting bit on your inner thigh?”
“What? Why?”
“Just think about it for a second,” Eva said. “You get bit in the neck. You grab for your neck. You bleed out. But your leg… that’s got to be painful. Or what if someone is eating you out and then they bite you…”
“Eva, what are you asking me here?” I asked.
Now the driver casually turned his head for a second.
Eva snapped her fingers. “Eyes on the road, man.”
“She’s a horror writer,” I said. “Not a serial killer.”
“Not that any of you know of,” Eva said. “So don’t get on my bad side.”
“Can we finish this conversation when we get out of this car?”
“I’m just thinking out something I’m writing,” Eva said. “I have this vampire…”
“You’re writing about vampires now?”
“It’s a sexy vampire,” Eva said. “These scenes are wicked hot. This guy likes to eat…” Eva wiggled her eyebrows.
“Wow,” I whispered.
“Right? So, I’m wondering what is hotter yet still gory. If the vampire goes down on a woman and then bites her leg when he’s done. Or if he bites her neck. He could bite her neck while he’s touching her…”
“I like the leg thing,” the driver said.
“You do?” Eva asked. “Why? Give me your thoughts.”
