“Who said I’m worried?”
“You are worried. You’re talking about it.”
“No, I’m worried about you.”
“So, you care about me then.”
“I did not say I care about you, Mav,” I said.
“Let’s look at the evidence here,” he said. “You tried to hide me from your friends.”
“I did not…”
“Yes, you did. If you wanted to be a huge bitch to me, you could have had your friends attack me. But you kicked them out. You let me in.”
“That was for one thing only.”
“And we did that one thing. Then you wanted me to stay and cuddle.”
“I don’t have to listen to this,” I said. “Goodbye, Maverick.”
“Now you’re kicking me out?”
“Yup,” I said. I stood up. “See you around.”
I walked right by him, my sights set on my bedroom.
Maverick grabbed my hand. “Wait, sweetie.”
“For what?” I asked, looking down at him.
“I don’t do this thing either,” he said. “Just so you know. And I mean that. When you grabbed my hand, I figured it was by mistake. I was going to pull my hand away and fake a text or something to get out of here.”
“Too bad you didn’t do that.”
“Is it though?”
“What, you want to be here? You want to cuddle? Make coffee? Should we share our feelings too?”
“No,” he said. “We both slept, then had amazing sex in the shower. I think that’s a victory.”
“Don’t say I care about you when I don’t,” I said. “Got it?”
“Got it,” he said. “You don’t care at all about me.”
“I was just trying to be a good person in the situation,” I said. “It’s not my ass on the line here. It’s yours. You’re the one sleeping with your boss’s daughter.”
“I can’t help it though,” Maverick said. “The boss’s daughter is just too damn sexy to stay away from.”
“Sexy, huh? Only when we’re alone though. Because last time I checked, you yelled at me when we were in public.”
“I’m sorry about that,” he said. “I owe you an explanation but I’m going to guess you don’t want it.”
“Nope,” I said.
“That’s why I like being near you. You understand this stuff.”
“Yeah, well, this cannot get out,” I said. “What we’re doing. I know that’s the most obvious thing to say right now, but I have to say it.”
