I was done waiting.

I’d told Optimus to go fuck himself as he stood and laughed at me and headed out before dawn the next morning. Guilt sat in my stomach as I thought about leaving Jayla behind, but when I explained to her that I was going to get Rose and bring her home she beamed with excitement.

I was going to stay true to my word.

She was coming home with me. Fuck everything else. We could figure the rest out later. But I needed hernow.

I was sick of thinking about the‘what if’s’because if I kept focusing on them, soon I was going to lose everything. Then the only thing I’d be thinking about was the‘could haves’and that shit scared me a lot more.

I took Op’s truck which drove me even crazier. I hated being locked in a cage for that long and Arkansas was a long drive. But I couldn’t risk being seen on my bike in town. The less attention drawn, the better.

I parked out the back ofThe Backroomand it wasn’t long before Judge appeared in the doorway.

“‘Bout time you sorted your shit out,” he said, walking toward me.

I lifted my shades and placed them on my head. “Just tell me how to find her, old man.”

He laughed. “You should be more respectful to your elders.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “And you should be more careful what you say to the people who are effectively saving your club’s ass. Don’t think just because you’re with my mom that you’re my daddy or some shit.”

“Yeah, heard what a stand-up man he is.”

I pushed off the truck, my skin bristling at his comment. Yeah, my dad was an asshole, but fuck if I would let him speak about him. It was just principle.

“Tell me where the fuck she is?”

His broad grin showed through his thick beard. “Rose is heading back out later to meet with them. While she’s gone, you can come round to our place and see your mother.”

He was fucking bargaining with me. “You’re seriously doing this? I could just ring Kev and ask him.”

He shook his head, still fucking smiling. “He doesn’t know. Only Skins, Light and I know where she is. Safer that way.”

“You don’t trust my men?”

“I trust mine more.”

It was fucking pointless standing here arguing with him. He wouldn’t back down, even if I clocked him in the face with my fist. This bastard was a hard ass. I guess I’m not surprised.

“Fine.”

“Good.” He pulled a piece of paper from the back pocket of his jeans. “Turn left out the exit and head up the road a few miles. It’s the only apartment block on the right side of the road. She’s in 10D. It’s out the back.”

I held up the paper he’d given me. “Why do I need this then?”

He turned and walked away. “We have dinner at six.”

Smartass motherfucker.

I threw myself back in the truck. It didn’t take me long to find the place he was talking about. The apartments were nice, new. I was glad she wasn’t stuck in some run down motel or some shit. They were looking after her.

I pulled up around the back, that way my truck couldn’t be seen from the road and it wasn’t obvious to anyone who I was visiting. The doors were locked. To get inside you either needed a key card or to be buzzed in by someone who lived there.

I found 10D and pressed the buzzer.

It took a minute, but I finally heard her voice.

“Hello?”
