“She’s okay,” he said in a rush.“She’s upset, but physically she’ll be fine. The healer is with her.Petra took out three of your guards. They have broken bones, stitches, concussions.”

A goblin wrecking ball of destruction—all rage, no restraint.

Vori didn’t have time to be afraid. She had decisions to make, orders to give.“She’ll head to the human realm.”It was the logical conclusion based on what she’d told them.“I’m going after her.”

“I’m coming with you,” Perry said.

“But Kradnovtl?”Mykata asked.“Can the realm survive our queen being away?”

As much as Vori didn’t want to believe in the divine blood theories, the physical proof was too much to ignore.“It should be okay for a few hours, according to Queen Clíodhna. You’ll have to stay here, as you’ll be the last living royal in the realm.”

“But I could go.I could help you talk to my little sister.”

This was what being a queen meant.Making the hard choices.“You tried that in the cell earlier. The time for talking is over.I’ll have to stop her through any force necessary.”

“No.”Mykata shook her head so fast, it must’ve given her whiplash.“She’s too strong. You won’t be able to take her alone without losing all control.”

Perry glanced at her before speaking to the guard.“When you came to our suite, when Vori was still unconscious, you pledged to serve her as your ruler.”

The captain looked offended with her stern frown and hard gaze.“I’ll prove my loyalty.I would bleed for my queen.”

Vori shook her head.“Let’s not spill any more royal blood.Your point, husband?”Because the man always had a reason for what he said.

He stared at the captain.“Do you promise to protect our secrets as long as they are for the good of Kradnovtl?”

“I swear it.”

“We need to tell her the truth about my abilities.”He looked to Vori as if seeking permission.

She sighed. The time for protecting his powers from exposure had long since passed.“Do it.”

Perry flexed his fingers, and white arcs of electricity crackled there.Faintly.She’d drained him of so much of his magic.

“You have powers,” Mykata whispered.“A true miracle. The goblin queen and her consort come again.”

He closed his hand around the sparks.“Your queen won’t be going against Petra alone.”

Mykata put her fist to her heart.“Majesty, I will do whatever you command.”The muscles in her jaw clenched.“Whatever you decide for the king killer, the sister slayer, I will accept.Just come home safely. For Kradnovtl.”

Vori dipped her chin, a silent sign of respect in return for the allegiance given.“By the blood.”

“By the blood,” the captain echoed.

“Tell Jura…” The command stuck in her throat. This order was so difficult to issue. They’d already been through too much.“Tell Jura that if the worst should happen—if I can’t come back, whether Petra kills me or costs me my sanity.Or if Kradnovtl fades.”She took a deep breath.“She should return to the faerie realm.Someone there needs her.”Unconscious or not, her mother could use a friend who had loved her.Especially if Vori didn’t make it.

“Yes, Majesty.Anything else?”Mykata asked.

“Protect the realm while I’m gone.”

“Any orders for me before we go?”Perry asked.

To stay safe and protect her heart?“Refill your powers. We’ll need as much magic as you can manage.”

Less than an hour later, they stood outside the goblin glass. She was glad she’d brought more guards to tend to the ones Petra had left battered and bloody before she’d crossed realms to the human side.

“She took out another half dozen guards,” Perry said.“Going against her won’t be easy.”

“No.But we have to.”No matter how much Vori didn’t want to.“To finish the blood vows. For your father’s sake.We must stop her.”
