She fought an eye roll. Now probably wouldn’t be the best time to remind her overprotective cousin that everyone had seen most of her skin in photo spreads before.

“You can’t go out there.”Perry didn’t glance her way, but she caught the worry in his tone.

“I’ll be fine.”

“What you’re planning, how certain are you that it’ll work?”

“Pretty sure.”As a goblin, she was fast and strong.

“You’ve used that phrase twice tonight.Say it often?”

“Yes,” her cousins agreed at the same time.

Alys groaned.“All the time.It’s annoying.”

“And concerning,” Alexei said.

Vori interrupted their let’s-pick-on-the-supermodel party and glared at Perry.“Did I succeed last time when I said it?When I helped you with your little problem?”

He shut up.Yet his fingers curled on his thigh.

Alexei huffed a powers-preserve-me-from-insane-family sigh.“You have twenty minutes, cousin. No more.Wear the locator I gave you.Take earplugs, eye protection, and a knife.”

“Hand them here.”She unbuttoned her pants, the swish of fabric against the leather and the thump of her shoes hitting the floorboard too loud in the sudden quiet.

“Wait.”Perry fumbled blindly for her hand before seeming to remember he might grope bare skin.Poor guy.Life with a demon organization hadn’t prepared him for this.“You can’t go out there. You’re naked.”

“I’m hard to kill.”She jumped to the ground and slammed the door, cutting off any other arguments from the lawyer.

Alexei drove away.

Vori shielded her eyes from the billowing sand the Hummer kicked up.The grit stung her skin and burned her nostrils.Pebbles dug into her bare feet. The smell of exhaust overpowered the clean desert air.She waited until the taillights faded in the distance to slip into her goblin skin.

Perry had fought accepting a proposal from her as a beauty.Would he ever agree if he knew about her beast?
