“So why’s she after your dad?”

She was quiet for a long moment.“Why did he leave you and your sister?”
He ran his hand down her back, to soothe himself as much as her.“He pushed for education of all supernatural kids.His progressive non-Legacy views got him exiled by the witch Senate.”
“Really?”
“Yep, he chose to help other kids instead of staying with his own.Petra probably sees only the neglect, his abandonment of me and Lili.Not having our parents around contributed to her death.”
“If she gets out, Petra won’t stop coming for you or your dad.”
“Then we’ll have to keep her locked up to keep my old man safe in his bookstore.”
“Sins of the father.”Her voice slowed, the drugs dragging vowels and dropping syllables.“Such a universal truth.”

“Hmm.”Her breathing deepened.“Save the realm for me, will you?”

There was a soft knock on the door.He eased out of the bed, careful not to disturb his sleeping and healing queen.It must be Jura or another maid to tap so quietly.Probably bringing Vori more medicine or another pot of tea.
He cracked the door and stared in surprise.“Mykata.”
