“You know I don’t do relationships to have a break-up. You do understand that… right?” I want to make sure Egypt knows exactly what we’re doing. There will be no homes with picket fences, kids, or marriage in our future.

“Giovanni, I know exactly who you are. I don’t have visions of sugarplums dancing in my head, but it’s obvious that someone does.” Egypt shakes her head, and her jet black strands sway with the motion.

My face scrunches in the realization that Egypt is right. No matter what I told Carly about what I wanted or what she should expect, she ignored me. And my stupid ass did everything to appease her, which played right into her delusions.

“Stay here and finish up. I’ll go handle this.”

“You won’t get any arguments here… crazy bitch,” Egypt mumbles the last part, but I hear her loud and clear.

Although Egypt never said that she didn’t like Carly, and she never acted anything but professionally towards her; there was obvious tension between the two of them whenever they spoke. However, I think that was more on Carly’s part than Egypt’s.

I walk out of my office, past Egypt’s, and through the shared suite door. Even though most of the suite is made of glass, Carly has to be acting a complete idiot for us to be able to hear her.

“What the fuck is going on out here?” I don’t yell, but my voice is raised enough for all the chaos to come to a standstill, except for Carly, who is still squealing at security.

“Giovanni, Ms. Lambert is insisting she sees you.” Daniel’s usually put together appearance is disheveled. His shirt is half untucked, and his hair looks like a brush hadn’t touched it in years.

“Who in hell even let her in the building?” I question, but instead of answering, everyone is looking around.

“Why are you doing this, Gio? I love you! You promised me!” Carly hysterically yells.

I stride toward her, and she finally stops when she sees the look on my face. I stop a breath away from getting in her space because I want her to understand who she’s dealing with. This isn’t Giovanni, the owner of G.C.D. Corporation, this is Capo DeLuca.

“I told you if you made trouble, I would ruin your entire family,” I say low, so only she can hear.

Carly starts to shake her head with wide blue eyes. I finally see the fear that she should’ve had from the beginning.

“My family has nothing to do with this. I- I just want you to talk to me,” she desperately pleads, but her eyes are still crazed.

I guess I never noticed how unhinged Carly was until now. She did everything I wanted her to do, so I didn’t ask enough questions. It’s my fault for not paying attention.

“We’ve had our talk already. There are no more chances, Carly. You will regret fucking with me.” I wave my hand for security, “Get her out of here, and if any of you idiots let her in again, you’ll regret it.”

I have enough shit to deal with. Carly and her theatrics are low on the totem pole. But if she’s smart, she’ll stay away from me.

Everyone was on pins and needles for the rest of the day, the office was eerily quiet, and the tension was pissing me off. Most of my employees simply work for an online gambling company. They don’t have any idea of the ruthlessness their boss has.

And I don’t want them to know. I keep my legit business in the black and out of trouble. The reason I quit fighting in the first place was to get out of the spotlight, so I don’t need anything bringing me back. I don’t even want to be in the Nashville society pages or the gossip blogs about anything, which is another reason I had to end things with Carly. Every time we went somewhere, which wasn’t often, there was a photo taken.

It was too much, and now she’s behaving erratically. Carly’s already been running her mouth, and that’s when we were on good terms. There’s no telling what she will do now. And I can’t trust her or what she might do.

“Mario, bring Nick up to my office. We have a situation.”

Egypt and Daniel have been working hard to finish up contracts, so I haven’t been able to talk with Egypt since Carly showed up.

I know she was feeling doubt after our little lunchtime tryst, so even though it’s not what I would do for anyone else, I need to check on her. I don’t want to push too far too fast, and I also don’t want to push her away, especially since she’s finally right where I want her to be.

It only takes my cousins a few minutes to stroll into my office from my private elevator. Just like Mario, Nick is my first cousin on my mother’s side, and we grew up together. Nicky is the real brawler of the family. He just didn’t want to display his talents in the way that I did. Nicky is my guard and driver, and he’s also my secret weapon, not that I need him. But it makes my family feel better that I have him so close.

“What’s up, G?” Nicky asks as he plops down on the couch in my office.

“You tell me. You text me a thousand times without saying what you wanted. You also didn’t tell me Carly was on her way to show her ass either.” I look between the two of them, waiting for my answer.

“I warned your ass about that crazy bitch, but you wouldn’t listen. You have to see things for yourself sometimes before you get it. I bet you get it now, don’t you?” Mario answers, his Italian accent thick and smug.

I throw a sneer in his direction because I don’t want to admit that he’s right. We both know he is, but I’ll be damn if I tell his arrogant ass that.

“Fuck you Mario, Nicky…”

“Don’t start with me, G. I did what I was supposed to do.”

I sigh and decide to change the subject. Carly getting in the building won’t happen again. And we have other more pressing things to discuss.

“What were the urgent texts about, Nicky?”

“Our guy made contact. He has intel on where Mancini has been hiding. And you’re not going to like it.”

“Fuck!”
