“You’re the Brawler! My daddy loves you! I mean, I do too.” She blushes, and her coworker elbows her in the side.

“Shayla. Show Mr. DeLuca to his table,” the girl whispers with a nod, and Giovanni chuckles.

“Right. Sorry, Mr. Brawler, right this way.” The young hostess leads us through the crowded restaurant to a semi-private table at the back.

Giovanni usually dines in private rooms when he visits a restaurant. Mostly because he’s usually entertaining business associates, but I’m glad he chose to sit out in the open. The ambiance in this place is really romantic even though this isn’t a date.

The waiter comes and takes our drink order, and it seems like only seconds he’s back pouring me a large glass of Merlot. I take a nice sip, and then I almost choke.

Across the room, sitting with his arm around a woman is Smith. I didn’t tell Giovanni anything about my boyfriend and me, but it might just backfire in my face.

***

I manage to slyly text Smith without Giovanni noticing, and now I’m waiting by the restrooms for my fake boyfriend to meet me.

“What the hell, E? Do you know how long it took me to get Vanessa on a date?” Smith huffs when he reaches the back hall of the restrooms.

“I bet it didn’t take you two damn years!” I whisper-yell at him as I pull him into a dark corner.

I hope like hell nobody sees us back here, especially my crazy ass boss who thinks I’m his after one afternoon tryst. And although I’m not opposed to the idea whatsoever, Giovanni is a killer. And he wouldn’t take too kindly to Smith and me being together right now.

“You didn’t tell me my role of your boyfriend extended beyond parties,” Smith says in exasperation, and I totally get where he’s coming from, but I’m panicking at the moment.

“Okay… okay… I can handle this,” I say out loud, trying to calm myself down.

“Just tell him I broke up with you. What’s the big deal?” Smith’s confusion would be cute if it weren’t so damned annoying. But he’s right. People break up all the time.

Plus, I won’t look like a big slut since I wouldn’t have had a boyfriend at the time Giovanni ate my pussy for lunch.Yeah. This can work.

“You’re right. We broke up because you work too much, and we’re better off as friends,” I say more to myself than to Smith.

“Egypt, why don’t you just tell Giovanni how you really feel?”

“I can’t.” I shake my head, “you don’t know him like I do. He’ll freak out. I finally got him to agree to…” I don’t finish my sentence because as much as I love Smith, he doesn’t need to know all of the dirty details of my situation with Giovanni.

“Alright, sweetie. Just don’t get caught up in so many lies you forget your truth.” Smith gives me a sweet smile before he disappears back into the restaurant.

I go into the restroom to get myself together. I need to breath and put on my game face because seeing Smith really caught me off guard.

When I return to my table, I notice that Smith and his date are gone. Again, I’m thankful for a friend like him, but his words have me thinking.Should I tell Giovanni that I lied to get his attention?

“Hey, gorgeous. What’s on your mind?” Giovanni’s voice is almost tender, and when I look into his brown eyes, I see the concern. I feel like shit.

“Everything is fine. Let’s eat. It’s been a super long day.” I smile at him and he nods.

Our food comes, and I have to say it’s better than I remember. The seared scallops and mushroom risotto is cooked to perfection. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything more succulent in my life.

I’m doing my best to just focus on the food so that Giovanni won’t pick up on my sour mood. It isn’t his fault I have a crisis of conscience. I know I should tell Giovanni about Smith, and I will. Just not yet.

“You’ve been awfully quiet tonight. I know the shit with Carly was a lot,” Giovanni starts, but I shake my head.

“It’s not her. I just. I want to finish what we started earlier.” I look up at him through my thick lashes and give him my most seductive smile.

“Today was just the tip of the iceberg. Are you sure you’re ready for all I have to give?”

It only takes a split second for me to answer, “Yes, sir.”

Giovanni raises his hand, and it seems like the waiter appears out of thin air. He signs the check, and before I know it, Giovanni is pulling me out of the Giuseppe’s.
