“These are fire, Benny.”
I giggle at the use of the stupid nickname from last night. He winks at me as he shoves the rest of the cookie into his mouth and walks out my door. I close it behind him and lean against it for a minute.
“What the frack just happened?” I mutter.
Excitement bubbles up, and I try to control it. Just because he asked about rock climbing doesn’t mean he’ll follow through and take me, just the two of us.
No, a lot could happen between now and then. Like him remembering he isn’t interested in me as anything other than a friend. Or maybe he wants to hang out more but still be friends.
Oof.The thought of spending more time with him but not being able to call him mine makes me want to cry. I left out a huff of air.
“Be strong, Bernadette.” I push off the door and head right back to the couch. I fell for Wade Roberts long ago, and it didn’t do me any good. I’m not going to let myself get excited for something that could lead to more between us. I’m a realist like that.
