I strolled to my room, making sure he got a good look at my ass as I walked away. I quickly threw on a pair of running shorts and a tank top before meeting him on the couch.

“Why did you text me?” he asked. “Why not your own Alpha?”

I’d hoped he wouldn’t ask about that. “That’s a good question. I didn’t even think about it. Just acted.”

He nodded slowly. “Interesting.”

“If you say so.” He was right though. It was something to think about, but I wouldn’t reveal that to him. “So, what do you think is going on? What’s your pack trying to hide?”

He grunted. “Funny. Wasn’t it just the other day we were trying to figure out why your pack was the only one unaffected?”

“Yeah, both our packs are looking guilty in one way or another.”

“Agreed.”

We fell into silence for a while. My mind kept wandering back to Isaac. He had always been the first to have my back. Hell, he’d trained me to fight. But when I thought about him now, little alarm bells went off. They weren’t too loud, but they were there. Add to that Henry being annoyed by his presence and it really made me wonder.

I needed my wolf to see him. She’d tell me if I could trust him or not. I pressed a hand to my stomach as the guilt settled in after thinking Isaac could be behind the weird shit going on.

“What are you thinking about?” Liam asked.

“Isaac,” I said without thinking.

“You reek of him.”

He still thought Isaac and I were sleeping together. I turned to face him, letting a smile play on my lips. “Jealous?”

“I don’t need to be. I’ll win you over sooner or later.” His eyes roamed over me, lingering on my chest. “After today, I’m hoping it’s sooner.”

I followed his gaze and saw my nipples through my shirt. “You’re pretty sure of yourself, Mr. Fraser.”

“That I am, Red. That I am.”

A laugh escaped me. “I may not want to rip your head off anymore, but I can assure you I will not sleep with you.”

“We’ll see,” he said with a devilish grin. “What are your thoughts on your Alpha?”

“His name is Isaac. Use it. He’s my best friend. I can’t imagine he’d ever do anything like this. But then… Henry doesn’t seem to care for him.”

“Henry?”

“My guardian. The hawk.” I gestured to the bird sleeping on the mantle of my fireplace.

“Ah, you have a guardian. Interesting.”

I watched Henry as he slept. He didn’t seem bothered by Liam’s presence; someone I’ve hated my entire life. Yet, someone I’ve loved since I was a toddler upset him. My wolf also liked Liam. She’d even let him pet her. The bitch.

“Is it though? I mean, if it’s weird or rare you know it’s probably going to apply to me,” I said distractedly, returning my attention to him. “You’re an enigma yourself, Mr. Fraser.”

“Only because you’ve disliked me for so long. You think I’m a callous asshole who permits the abuse of children.”

“I wouldn’t say you permitted it, but you turned a blind eye to it. It’s not like you told them to do it, you just didn’t stop it.”

“Right, so you think I knew what was going on and ignored it.” I nodded. “Do you think your guardian and your wolf would be so content around me if I were that kind of man?”

“No. That’s exactly what I was just thinking about. Henry got all pissy with Isaac the other day.” The hawk peered at me through one eye before closing it again. “See. Even the mention of his name annoys him.”

Liam made a noise like a laugh and grunt combined. “What’s your wolf think about him?”
