“It doesn’t matter.”

“It does. I am staying in his house so if there’s something I should know you should tell me.”

He fell silent again for a few moments. “I’ve seen him in action handling violators from his pack. He can be brutal.”

“Yeah, I recently got that impression.” He snapped his head up to look at me, and I rolled my eyes. “Not aimed at me, at the asshole who jumped me in the woods on Liam’s property.” His eyes widened, and I held up a hand before he could speak. “It’s fine. We got him to talk.”

I told him everything Ivan had said. He took a moment to get his anger under control before speaking. “Is he dead?”

“Yes. And so is the dick who burned down my house.”

“Good.”

He fell silent, and I knew he was worrying. It’s what he does. “Liam won’t hurt me, Isaac.”

He studied me as he took a sip of beer. “Okay. If you truly believe that, I’ll have to find a way to as well.”

“Thank you. Are you sure that’s all? There’s nothing else you know about him that I should?”

“Nothing else.” He smiled again. “Let me rebuild for you,” he added, abruptly changing the subject. “I brought some plans with me. You can pick whichever one you want.”

“I’ll look at them and think it over, good?”

“Good.”

We chatted about unimportant things while we ate the rest of our meal. After dinner we went out to his truck to look at what he’d drawn up. I fell in love with the second one he showed me. It was bigger than the original house with four bedrooms which meant I’d have my little library and an actual office instead of having to use the dining room.

After arguing for twenty minutes over me paying for it we settled for me paying him whatever it costs him to build, no markups. He wouldn’t make money from it, but it made me feel better knowing he wasn’t losing money either.

We said our goodbyes, and I drove back to Liam’s with a huge smile plastered on my face. I was getting a new house.
