He laughed again, shoving my shoulder a little. “That was terrible. But seriously, why haven’t you slept with him?”

“I’m not sure. We’ve been together every other way.” I nibbled my lip again. “If I’m honest, it’s because I don’t want to find out he’s not my mate. And even more, I’m not sure I want to know he is.”

“Em, just because I’m not your mate and neither were any of the others you’ve been with, doesn’t mean you’ll never find him. It’ll happen for you, I know it. You’re too special for it not to.”

“Special. Ha.”

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: whoever your mate is will be one lucky motherfucker. And I don’t just mean because you’re hot.”

“Okay, sure. I’ve got to go now. I have a book to write and a real-life mystery to solve. And you have a house to build.” I smiled up at him. “Thank you. For everything.”
