Chapter 14

Taveon

Taveon wasn’tcertain why Bree was asking questions about his family, but hewascertain that he didn’t like it. It had been far too easy to speak freely to her, and he had said far too much before he’d realized how long he’d gone on about his mother’sdeath.

As the days had passed, he’d started to become accustomed to her company. He almost enjoyed having someone by his side on his daily walk through the castle halls. Which meant he had gotten lazy. Instead of keeping his cards close to his chest, he’d opened himself up to Bree, something he hadn’t done with anyone for a very long while. Only his closest companions had heard the story from Taveon’s lips. Rafferty, Branok, and Conlan. They were his oldest friends. Hisconfidants.

They certainly weren’t strange human girls who had been transformed into Light Fae shapeshifters. Ones who wanted nothing more than to see every Dark Faeburn.

Still, he felt so drawn to her. That strange sweet magic twisted in his gut every time he gazed into her beautiful blue eyes. She was fire and anger and raw emotion, and instead of turning away from her, he wanted nothing more than to give in and let himself getclose.

But he could not. It was dangerous. If he truly opened his heart to how she often made him feel, everything could go horriblywrong.

She was a servant to the crown.Hiscrown. And he could not let himself forget why she was here.
