The carriage came to a halt before his house, Watkins already standing at the door. Bram had given very specific instructions to his staff. He exited the vehicle and held his hand out to Rosalind.

“Welcome, Lady Torrington. My lord.” The butler bowed.

“Watkins will show you up to your room,” Bram said, nosing along the side of her ear. “Your maid will be waiting upstairs along with a hot bath. I thought you’d want some privacy. I’ve a few matters to attend to.”

Rosalind frowned. “Very kind of you.”

Bram smiled to himself. It wouldn’t hurt for Rosalind, now that she was slightly aroused, to be left to contemplate her evening, which would not be spent making macarons. Besides, Bram would be in the kitchen, cooking dinner for them and preparing thebaiser du ciel.If nothing else, his new wife enjoyed food, and he hoped a good meal would help calm her fears. “There’s champagne with the bath. A wonderful vintage.”

“But—”

Bram pulled her close and pressed a kiss on her temple. Her softness pressed into him for only a moment before he pulled away.

“I’ll see you in a bit, my brazen baker. Enjoy the bath.”
