Then he stretches his palm out. I watch as Phil stands up grumbling something about stubborn idiots, before going to deposit some cash in Roman’s hand, so do Brock and Alan who look at me with murderous eyes.
Petal turns to Lizzie.
“What’s going on?” she asks the other woman.
Lizzie smiles widely.
‘Roman won the bet.”
“What bet?” I ask through clenched teeth even though I already know.
“How long it would take you two doofuses to get together,” Alan grumbles.
“I bet one month. I had so much faith in you,” Brock says shaking his head in disappointment.
I’m not sure whether to laugh or be pissed. But Petal is laughing though.
“I bet six months. Thought it would be enough time for Taj to man up,” Phil says glaring at me.
“Seriously?” I ask rolling my eyes.
“I bet a year. I just knew you would both be too stubborn or something would go wrong. I thought a year would be sufficient. Then Roman here, the smartass, bet longer than a year. Longer than a year but under 5 years. Guess we’ve known he would win for a while,” Alan says. He looks really pissed which makes it hard for me to be angry about the bet.
Roman looks like he just won the lottery. He smiles widely.
“Don’t be a sore loser, Lan.”
“That was really smart, Roman,” Petal tells him.
The two of them are the smartest people in the room. Roman doesn’t act like it, but he has got a genius IQ, just like Petal. She’s always liked that.
Alan is still pouting so Rachael gives him a kiss. Brock and Phil seem to have gotten over it. A minute later, Phil and Jessie leave and then reappear with food.
It’s really nice, hanging out with all my friends like this. They may annoy the hell out of me but at the end of the day, they’re family. And the most important one of all sits beside me, looking at me with an adoring expression on her face. I catch her gaze and my heart skips a beat. I never thought she would look at me like that. I might not deserve her but I’m never letting her go again.
