Chapter 12

Addie

“Addie,” Eli breathed as he pushed into me from behind in slow, long strokes. Like he was listening to a slow song in his head and was trying to match the rhythm.

I flipped over and pulled his lips to mine and he deepened the kiss, pushing into me harder, faster.

My nails dug into his back as Eli sped up as I cried out, my walls clenching around his cock, sending him over the edge as he fucked me. But this time was different. He looked into my eyes, as if memorizing my features, committing this moment to memory. Then he pushed into me harder again, sitting up as he slid my legs over his shoulders, pounding into me. My body tightened around him and my hips jerked, finding release again. A few seconds later Eli’s nails dug into my hips as he pulled me to him, finding release again. He let out a long, low groan and then relaxed between my legs until we collapsed onto the bed, out of breath.

I curled up next to him and he pulled me to him, his lips crushing mine as he deepened the kiss.

“I missed you,” I said, kissing his neck. Whenever I was stressed, he was always there when I needed him.

He wrapped a perfectly muscular arm around me. “I missed you too. I wanted to come over and check up on you, but things were a little awkward the last time I was there.”

“Oh, you mean when the family accused you of trying to kill me?” I scoffed. “Yeah, I could see how that would be awkward. Sorry about that.” I kissed down his neck to his chest and then laid my head on his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart.

“Not your fault,” he said, running his fingers through my hair. Then he kissed the top of my head. “How is everything over there?”

I sighed. Instead of answering the question, I buried my face in his neck.

“That bad, huh?” He flipped me over onto my back and pinned my arms next to my head as his lips descended upon mine. Then he pulled back and gave me one last sweet kiss.

I turned him over and kissed his neck. “They hate me. I don’t think it’s me, though.”

“What do you mean?”

I took my forefinger and traced the tattoo on his chest. Eli was covered in tattoos. They were all different, but somehow, they seemed to work together like they were telling a story. The wolf in the woods on his back was my favorite.

“I think Reggie is turning them against me. I don’t think he wants me to be the Boss.” I let out a deep breath, tracing the dragon on his forearm. “When my father dies, he’s going to find a way to push me out.”

Eli sat up. “What do you need me to do?”

“Nothing.” I sat up and kissed his arm, pulling his face to mine. “I’m a big girl and can handle my own shit.”

“Well, how are you going to handle it?” His voice had just an edge to it. “You can’t just let this go, Addie. You’re going to be the Boss.”

“I know, Eli. I’m working on a plan.” I rolled over, laying on my stomach. “But I don’t even know if I’m right. I can’t just kill him.”

He ran his hand through his hair and then leaned over and kissed my shoulder where I was shot. “There are rules to this. If you just kill him for no reason, there will be consequences. And if you haven’t proved yourself to the family before Harrison dies, then all bets are off once they stick him in the ground. And if there’s no one on your side by then, you won’t make it out alive, Little Red.” He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. “And I can’t let that happen.”

“What I need are allies.” I sat up next to him, pulling the sheet up over my breasts.

“Well, you have me.” He smiled as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “I’ll put the word out to the Gold family, and you will be protected.”

“Thank you.” I kissed Eli’s shoulder. “But I need to earn the respect of the men in my own family first. Even if I’m protected by the Gold family, it won’t mean shit to the Kingsley Family. We handle our own shit. Remember?”

He laid back down and slung his arm over his forehead as I wiggled my way back onto his chest. His fingers traced my spine as we lay there in complete silence. His steady breaths were almost hypnotic, until a thought popped into my head.

“Do you think Lucian Sky tried to kill me?”

He looked into my eyes under his arm. “I can’t even express to you how much that doesn’t make sense.”

I sat up. “I know, right? Why the fuck would he want to kill me?”

“Unless he wanted to hurt your father.” He let out a deep breath as he ran his fingers absentmindedly through my hair. “But I think everyone knows he has cancer and is on his way out. And Lou’s wife died of cancer. I think he pities your father. I don’t think he would try to kill you. Not now. He’s a cold bastard, but Lou wouldn’t do that to your father.”

I tapped my forefinger on his chest as one corner of my lips curled into a smile.
