CHAPTER10

Truths~Carter

It tookeverything for me to get out of bed in the morning. Brooklyn looked like an angel, lying on her stomach with her mess of fiery red hair splayed out around her pillow, with her natural curl pattern molded into her tresses. I liked it like that, wild and unkempt. I kissed her back several times, and while she didn't stir, a tiny smile played on her lips. Fuck me. This girl was doing more to me than I'd expected. Yes, I was attracted to her from day one. I loved how she looked so innocent all the time, like a lost little girl in need of protection. I couldn't help but eat that shit up. But I also loved the contrast. She was a woman. Every voluptuous inch of her.

I threw on a pair of jeans and dragged myself to the kitchen for a cup of liquid brain energy. My chef had a nice spread laid out an hour ago, with the hot foods laying idle on the warmer. With my coffee in hand, I sauntered to my office, taking a peek in the direction of my bedroom as I rounded the corner in the opposite direction. My home office spanned the space of my master bedroom, yet I hated working from here. Although I enjoyed the solitude, bad memories of Claire and our hellish breakup still lingered in the air. I shook the thoughts from my mind as I sank into my executive chair and moved the mouse. The sun had only been up for few hours, and already a long string of emails was waiting to be answered. I scrolled through, stopping at the one Aiden sent to me around 3 a.m. this morning. I asked him to dig into Lincoln's case, and since the information I needed wasn't available for the public eye, I knew he was the right man for the job. He owned a private security firm in Stonebridge, and he only catered his services to the elite. However, I had the pleasure of calling him an old friend, and I remembered how good of a hacker he was. The information Aiden gave me had me grinning like the Cheshire cat. Unbeknownst to both Brooklyn and Lincoln, a building across from the store had cameras, which meant they had security footage.

I dialed Aiden's number and wired him a few extra grand for the rushed job as I waited. The rest of the morning consisted of answering emails and returning phone calls. My mind would have been in the zone on any other day, but the only thing I could think about was my bedroom and the sweet little princess lying naked, tangled in the sheets. I scanned the time on my computer and noticed the clock struck 11 a.m. a few minutes ago, yet Brooklyn was still in bed. Damn, I wore my baby out.

A moment later, her soft voice echoed off the walls. I realized I had never given her a tour, and I called out. She followed my voice and sauntered into my office. Her nipples pebbled through her tight-fitted cupcake dotted tank, and my eyes trailed down to her purple panties with a bow on the front. Her fuzzy-covered feet rounded my desk, and I tugged her into my lap.

"I'm hungry," she said, running her hand through her wild tresses.

I let my fingers graze over her warm, smooth skin and placed a kiss on her arm. "Lucky you, the chef made a whole spread. It's in the kitchen. Do you remember where it is?"

She twirled a lock of hair around her finger before she nodded. My phone rang, and I patted her bottom, my eyes settled on her hips as she strolled out of my office. I licked my bottom lip. It took everything in me to not pick her up and carry her back to the bedroom, but missing calls from our elite clients was something my father frowned upon, and the last thing I needed was him coming around. I took the call, nodded, and pinched the bridge of my nose the entire time. It baffled me that so many people wanted to buy but knew jack shit about real estate. Money didn't buy common sense, and damn I wished it did.

Brooklyn passed by a moment later just as I was ending the call, and I gave her a come here motion with my finger. She padded her way in, her eyes wide as she took in the room, a cup of coffee in hand.

"This is crazy," she said before taking a sip of her coffee.

I narrowed my eyes at her. "You were just in here."

"I know, but now I'm actually awake. I can see."

I let my tongue flick the roof of my mouth as I digested her cute fucking face.

"Mhmm. Well, I'm glad you like it."

I pulled her into my lap, and her ass landed right where I wanted it, and I wondered if she could feel just how rock-hard I was. My arms clamped around her waist, and I nipped at her neck until she turned to face me. I waited until she finished her sip and then slammed my lips onto hers.

"I haven't brushed my teeth yet." She giggled.

I kissed her again. "You're fine, princess. Did you see all the snacks in the kitchen?"

She nodded and raised her shoulders in excitement as she bopped up and down. I had to dig my teeth into her shoulder to prevent her from blowing my load due to the movement.

"It's all for you," I said, brushing her hair back. "But daddy has to work some more. Feel free to roam around. But…" I ran my fingers down the front of her shirt, making her nipples harden. "You have to stay just like this."

"I can't get dressed?" she asked, her voice breathy from my touch.

"Is that a problem?" I lowered my tone. But the way she's batting her chocolate eyes under those long eyelashes makes forming words nearly impossible.

"No, Daddy." Those words were well-rehearsed by now and dripped from her tongue like sugar.

You have work to do, Carter.

"Run along," I told her.

I worked for a couple hours before closing my laptop for a break. The TV sound blared from the other room, and I took that as my cue to go check on her. Peeking into the living room, I found her sprawled out on the couch, with her juicy ass ripe for the taking. Her thumbs jutted across the screen as she stared at her phone. She made a few slight movements, and my eyes settled on her delectable peach, and damn did I want to take a bite out of it. A bowl of Lucky Charms sat empty on the glass table. Her head moved as she adjusted on the pillow, and I inched forward. A group of animated pets flew across the screen, and I folded my arms across my chest. So fitting for my little girl to be watching The Secret Life of Pets while munching on fruit and texting. She didn't notice my presence, so I let my eyes rest on her, and my heart flipped in my chest at a sudden realization. I had my pick of women, everything from models to movie stars, but nothing never stuck because all those women cared about two things. Money and appearance. But Brooklyn saw me as a human, someone more than what I could give her, and fuck, did I want to give her the world. She warmed up the frozen heart in my chest, removing the pain that settled there. I ran a hand from her ass up to her head, and she turned over before sitting up.

"Oops, sorry. I guess I should have asked before eating in the living room."

I sat down next to her. "What did I say, princess? Never apologize for anything."

"I forgot," she said meekly. "I'm just not used to it."

"Get used to it." I kissed her cheek and inhaled her sweet scent as I reached for the remote. "Tell me more about your childhood? ."
