I glared at her in the mirror. “Over my dead body.”

Arianna laughed, coming up to hug me from the back. Catching my gaze in the mirror, she held it. “I just want you to know that no matter how close or far away we are… I will always love you, Slugger.”

Normally the old nickname would make me smile. It was the one she gave me back in school when I’d come to blows with a drunk sorority girl. But the sadness in Arianna’s voice gave me pause.

Before I could question her about it she kissed me on the temple and spun away. That was weird.

“Well I better get down there. I’m fashionably late for my own party as of now. Any longer and it will be rude,” she said heading for the door.

“Ok, I’m just going to check myself out in the mirror for another minute. Be right behind you.”

She rolled her eyes. “Fine, see you down there.”
