We both laughed while making our way to a table on the lower patio.

The sky changed from sunny with puffy clouds, to grey and dull with a cool breeze coming up. Slumping down in our chairs we both groaned in appreciation. I didn’t want to move for the rest of the party.

A woman approached on a fast click of heals.

“Arianna, so good to see you.” Her voice did not match the nice greeting. Like a queen addressing a subservient.

“Hello Serena, I wasn’t expecting to see you here today. They said you wouldn’t be in until tomorrow.” Arianna sounded like tomorrow would have come too soon. Nor did she rise to greet Serena, which was very out of character for her. My brows raised in suspicion.

I am not one to normally judge quickly or assume the worst of anyone, but this woman screamed stuck-up bitch. Her eyes cold and voice demeaning. The fake smile plastered on her face was enough to make a saint want to smack it off.

Serena was beautiful beyond argument, but it was ruined by her arrogant personality. A tall lengthy blond with blue eyes and porcelain skin. The bright blue dress she wore hugged her body like a second skin. Serena could turn heads, and knew it. Her posture demanded superiority while she looked down her perfectly pointed nose at everyone.

“Hi, I’m Becka.” I stood to shake hands, thinking maybe I was just being a judgmental bitch myself.

“Serena,” she said, refusing to take my hand or even look me in the eye. Instead she crossed her arms and popped a hip in annoyance.

Mega bitch.Ok, I tried. Now I had a few choice words to say rolling around on my tongue. Slowly lowering into my seat, I told myself it would be inappropriate to beat someone bloody at such a nice party.

“Do you know where Luca is?” Serena asked Arianna.

I stiffened in my chair, eyes narrowing. How does she know Luca?Is she an ex-lover? The question made me want to vomit. I did not want Serena anywhere near Luca.

“Do I look like his babysitter?” Arianna snapped.

Apparently Serena didn’t feel the need to stick around after that, to which I was more than thankful. I waited until she was out of ear shot.

“Who the hell was that? And how does she know Luca?”

“That’s my cousin,” Arianna admitted with disgust. “She is a stone cold, stuck-up whore. She’s my mother’s, brother’s, daughter. And just like me, got her looks from her mother. The fact that we are related makes me sick. She visits from Italy every so often. I don’t know the story between her and Luca. Sorry.”

Dang.I didn’t like being in the dark. My skin started to crawl as my imagination kicked into overdrive. I needed to move, my tired feet forgotten.

“I’m going to check out the fountain.”

“Do you want me to come with you?”

“No, I just need a minute.” I walked away feeling unsettled.

Ugg. The idea of Luca being touched by a woman like Serena was enough to send my head spiraling. What happened in Luca’s past was—for the most part— none of my business. Though, that fact didn’t stop my mind from wondering.

Is that the usual woman Luca was attracted to? Smug and nasty, beautiful and perfect. Rude and so full of themselves that it’s a wonder there was room for them to consume food. As if they survived on eating their own arrogance.

Does he wish I was more like that?

No. I didn’t believe that was the case. Luca said he didn’t want me to loose who I was. That he wanted me. Which was a good thing because I was never going to change. At least, not into anything resembling the witch that just flew in on her broom disguised as a gorgeous woman.

Luca wanted me just the way I am. And if I could finally be honest with myself, I wanted him too.

The fountain sat tucked in the back of the property, hidden by a small path of ten-foot high hedges that wound back and forth. The fountain had three levels, much like a pyramid. Water shot out of the top reaching high overhead, then cascaded down the layers into a large pool about waist high.

I brushed my fingers through the water’s surface and the rain began to fall.

Lifting my face to the sky I closed my eyes, letting the coolness wash away all my heated frustration.

I liked rain. Loving the fresh smell and the feeling of new beginnings. Everything I thought about earlier got put into a box marked inconsequential and shoved the lid down. That was the past. Luca was mine now. I believed him when he said he wouldn’t cheat. Smart? Probably not, but I foolishly stuck with it.

I had to, for my own sanity.

Droplets tickled my skin, slowly trickling their way down my arms and chest. I imagined they were Luca’s fingertips caressing me. A shiver ran up my spine that had nothing to do with the chill in the air.

What would it feel like to have his hands on me? Those strong hands capable of crushing me at will. How much pleasure could they ignite? What would it be like to surrender my body to him?

Heat rushed between my legs. I couldn’t deny it any longer. I wanted his hands on me, his mouth on me, his hard length inside me. I wanted him.

If only he were here with me right now.
