Her arms crossed in annoyance. “You know we would be a perfect match. Or have you been pussy whipped by Miss Sweet Thing over there?” She flashed a vicious smile, gesturing to Becka. “She doesn’t belong here. I do.”

“She is none of your concern. You stay the fuck away from her, Serena.” I jabbed a finger in her face.

Serena studied me for a moment, unfazed by my fury. “I’m going to be staying in Boston for a while.” Well, shit. “In the end Luca you will see, I’m what’s best for you.” With that she turned on her heel and melted into the crowd.

“Damn that chick is crazy,” Nico breathed.

I ran a hand through my hair in exasperation. “I thought she would be right up your alley.”

Nico choked on his bourbon, throwing the back of his hand over his mouth to keep from spewing it on the floor. “I may like it rough sometimes— ok all the time— and want total dominance in the sack, but I don’t do crazy. And that chick is fucking nuts.” He pointed a finger at me. “Did you know, a couple years ago she slept with Angelo. Asked the guy to cut her while they were fucking. Freaked the guy out so bad he walked out on her without finishing.” He shivered like a cold breeze cut through his jacket. “Straight. Up. Crazy.” He walked away shaking his head.

Bile rose in my throat. I hadn’t heard that story but I knew Serena’s reputation well. The woman may want me, but she epitomized a total whore, and slept with almost anyone willing. In honesty, the story didn’t surprise me. It only confirmed what I already knew. Serena was the dangerous, manipulative psychopath you never turn your back on, or underestimate. I sneered in the direction she had gone.

“What’s got your feathers ruffled?” Matteo appeared at my side. He looked happy. It was a rarity for him to show the world what his feelings, like all men in our business. But actually seeing him happy, made me smile. I was not going to taint his night.

“Nothing man. Don’t worry about it.”

“Liar.”

I smiled into my glass. “You look good brother.” In other words, you look happy and I’m happy for you.

Matteo smiled knowingly. “Thanks. Your ahh… She looks amazing tonight too.”

My smile spread ear to ear. “Yes, she does. So does Arianna. I’ve never seen a more beautiful bride.”

“She’s one of a kind.” Matteo puffed with pride. “I’m starting to be convinced that yours is too.”

I raised a quizzical eyebrow at him. “Oh, really?” Tell me something I don’t know.

“Look at her man.” He threw an arm in Becka’s direction, where her and Arianna were still dancing. Would the woman ever get tired? She’d been dancing for hours. “By all rights she should look like shit, crying her eyes out from the last week of hell she’s experienced. Yet, here she is looking solid as ever and truly happy for Arianna. This wedding is something she will never have.”

“Are you trying to make me feel like shit? There is no way for me to ever make up for that. You’re not saying anything I haven’t thought of myself.”

“No. All I’m saying is I’m happy that you got such a good one. Strong. Loyal. Beautiful.” He winced. “Even if the situation is messed up. I’ve seen the way she looks at you. She has strong feelings for you.”

“I know…”

“Hey, Luca!” Arianna came spinning into Matteo’s side. He wrapped an arm around her waist and kissed her. “Hello, husband,” she said smiling up at him.

“Hello, wife.”

“Hey, Arianna. You look beautiful,” I said leaning in to kiss her on the cheek. If I was any other man Matteo would have killed me on the spot. But after what the three of us went through to ensure they could be together, he knew my care for Arianna was pure.

“Thank you. So does a certain other lady I know.” She winked.

“Where is she?”

“In the bathroom.” Arianna bit her lip, like she always did when she was holding back.

“Ok. What is it? Spit it out,” Matteo teased.

She looked at me with heated cheeks. “Nothing.”

I rolled my eyes. “How much did she tell you?”

“What! Who? Tell me what?”

“Oh, damn. This must be good,” Matteo chuckled.
