He ignored me. “I saw you on the dance floor. I think you and I could have a lot of fun.” His hand came up to touch my face. I slapped it away angrily.

“Not interested.” The resistance only seemed to entice him because he moved into my personal space. I was done playing games. After the bathroom altercation I had zero patience left. Knee, meet balls.

For a drunk guy he moved fast. He threw his hand down blocking the upward drive of my knee. “Whore!” he yelled, at the same time he delivered a punch to my gut.

Holy shit.My knee caps crunched as I hit the floor hugging my stomach. All the air rushed out of me. I gulped and gagged, my mouth gaping open like a fish out of water. The edges of my vision blurred with tears.

Why is the world full of so many assholes?

A strong hand wrapped around my neck, pulling me to my feet. My hands flew to his wrist trying to dislodge it. My back slammed against the wall, causing pain to shoot up my spine. Through watery eyes I could see the man’s raging expression. A knife flashed, then the sharp tip pressed under my chin. I went up on my tippy toes.

“Now we are going to have some fun.” He pressed his body against me so I couldn’t move. The hand around my neck tightened in just the right spot to cut off my air supply.

I managed small inhales but my vision was turning black at the edges, my mind growing fuzzy. I had to do something. Only one thing came to mind. “I’m with Luca,” I squeaked out desperately.

His laugh was haunting. “Luca is never with any girl. Everyone knows he’s never with a woman longer than it takes to fuck her and walk out the door. No one would believe you. Sorry beautiful, that one’s not going to work.” He laughed again.

I whimpered, wanting the wall to open up and swallow me whole. I’m not getting out of this. Tears streamed down my cheeks.

“Becka!” Luca’s yell vibrated into my cloudy brain. Pounding footsteps sounded in the hall.

The man’s body was ripped away and I could breath again. I crumbled to the floor holding my neck, choking and gasping for air. My head whipped up, eyes blinking rapidly to fight off the blurriness.

From my spot on the floor I watched Luca slam the guy against the wall with crushing force. With quick effective movements Luca twisted the knife out of the man’s hand and held it to his throat, snarling in his face like a feral animal.

Nico crouched down beside me, reaching out to help me up. I threw out my hand to stop him, shaking my head emphatically. I didn’t want anyone to touch me, let alone a man who a week ago had assaulted me. Nico’s face showed indifference as he put his hands up in surrender, moving to join Luca.

Through semi-clear vision I could see Luca holding the knife to the man’s throat, shaking with rage, his restraint holding on by a thread. A drop of blood slid down the man’s neck. Nico leaned against the wall watching, as if we were all part of a casual conversation.

Luca’s expression was deadly. His rage palpable in the air, surrounding us in a cloud that smelled of death. Oh my God, he’s going to kill him. It wasn’t that I felt particularly sorry for the guy, but I couldn’t watch Luca kill someone. Again. It would rip me apart.

Everything inside crumbled. My walls were coming down like dominos. I couldn’t stay there. I didn’t want to witness what would happen next. Enough nightmares tormented my sleep already.

Palming the wall, I hauled myself to my feet and staggered back to the bathroom.
