I didn’t seeLuca the next morning. There was a veg memory of him crawling in bed sometime during early morning, but when I woke at eight, he was already gone. His dirty gym clothes in the bathroom hamper let me know he had even worked out and showered before leaving. Does the man ever sleep?

Having stayed up late reading a book I found in the study, I crashed hard sometime after midnight. But it frustrated me that I hadn’t woken up to the sound of him moving around the room. Luca could be as silent as a cat.

I plucked my phone from the nightstand, itching to text him. No, that’s stupid.

Being clingy and needy was not my style, neither did I think it was one Luca would appreciate either. I shook my head at the ridiculousness of it all; married, having sex, and unsure if a good morning text was too much at this stage in our relationship. A humorless laugh bubbled up my throat.

My hand buzzed, causing me to nearly jump out of my skin. I looked at the screen and saw Luca had texted me. I bit my lip in giddy happiness.

Luca: Good morning beautiful. Are you awake?

Me: Yes. Why didn’t you wake me up before you left?

Luca: You looked so peaceful I couldn’t bring myself to wake you. I’ll be working late again. So don’t wait up.

Me: Will you wake me up when you get home?

Luca: If that is what you want.

Me: Yes. And make sure you still have some energy left when you do.

Luca: For you I will always have energy.

I set my phone on the night stand, flopping back against the pillows with a warm fuzzy feeling fluttering in my tummy.

Now, what the hell am I going to do the rest of the day?
