I stood there hugging Luca from the back for several minutes, the hot water running down our naked bodies. The moment was intimate and beautiful.

Luca’s body started to waver, I don’t even think he realized that I turned off the water and dried him before I was leading him back to the bed. Rolling him over so he was face down, I removed my own towel and straddled his perfectly toned ass.

“What are you doing?” he grumbled into the pillow.

“Shh. Just relax.” I placed my hands on his back, kneading his tight overworked muscles. He groaned loud, sinking into the mattress.

I could see his body and mind were still fighting sleep, having become used to being awake for hours yet to come. I was tempted to blurt out the topic swirling on the tip of my tongue. But he looked so peaceful under me. Caring for Luca came as easy as breathing. It felt right and rewarding in a new way. As a physical therapist it was my job to help people recover. With Luca it was much more.

So for the moment, his need shadowed my own, but in the morning mine would be heard. So help me God, I will be heard.

When his breathing evened out and his body went limp beneath me, I slid off, pulling the sheets over us. I lay there a long time watching him sleep, until my sated body and mind were dragged under by sleep.
