“Or what?” Her cute little chin thrust out in challenge. “You’ll lock me in the bedroom and keep me as your sex doll that you only have around to fuck. Guess what, we are already there.” Her voice began to rise. “You said you were going to be busy, but this is insane. I’m your wife, a living, breathing person. I need more than sex and five minutes of hello and goodbye!”

I was out of my stool in a flash, thundering over her. Dark clouds closed in around us. “You think I want this?” I bellowed in her face. “Never seeing you? Having to let you down? I. Have. No. Choice. This is the life Becka, it will be easier when you accept that!” My outrage shook the walls.

“I’m trying! You said you would make time for me. I’ve been patient and now you are shitting on my efforts.” Moisture pooled in her eyes. Her hands came up to shove me aside, trying to push past.

I grabbed her arm, yanking her back into my chest. Becka gasped, the bun on her head broke loose. “Where do you think you are going?” I growled like an animal. “We are not finished; and won’t be until I say so.” She was testing my patience not to bend her over my knee and spank her ass like a child. I didn’t give a shit if she was mad. Being ridiculed for something that I had no control over fueled my own frustrations.

With our noses almost touching she glared up at me. Her mouth opened in what I imagined would have been another heated retort when my phone rang on the kitchen counter. It vibrated and clattered against the marble, loudly demanding attention.

“Better get that,” she sneered. “Might be important.” Her sarcasm and condescending tone had my teeth grinding together.

I growled at her and answered the phone without breaking eye contact, while keeping ahold of her arm. “Yes.” Fierce green eyes threw daggers at me as Nico spoke on the other end. I glared right back. “I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”

I chucked the phone on the counter, spun her until her back touched the marble, then used my arms to cage her in. Leaning down so we were almost nose to nose, I dared her with my eyes to challenge me again. Becka’s arms folded across her chest, chin jutting out with a stubbornness that had me wanting to ravage her on the counter. My chest swelled with admiration. She looked too damn cute when she was trying to be tough. I wondered if my love hate relationship with her feistiness would be the death of me. However, she would not be winning this battle. I poured dominance into my gaze. I am alpha here, sweetheart.

Something shifted in her eyes. Defeat. Sorrow. Regret. I watched the hardness in her memorizing green and orange irises fracture. Her head ducked with a shake, shoulders falling with failure. “Please Luca. I need this.” Desperation drenched her words.

I liked hearing her beg in the bedroom, but now her begging was ripping my guts out, hitting the floor at my feet with a splat. She was hurting. Suffering. It wasn’t something I was prepared to live with. I had to give her something to hold onto. I made sure my voice was soft before I spoke. “Two weeks. Give me two weeks and then I will take you.”

Her head whipped up to look me straight in the eye. “I need your word.”

“You have it.”
