CHAPTERFIVE

Outlaw

“I gotta hand it to you man, I never thought you could pull that off. I wasn’t ever that good to pull some of the jobs you are and to be in good standing with the public. I mean one day we’re escorting a mafia boss and the next we’re raising money for charity. Usually we’re known for violence, but here we are. I mean who the fuck are you? I also have to pat myself on the back for choosing you as my successor,” Hawk claps me on the back as he takes a seat next to me.

I’m me, I guess. I shrug, nothing to say to that. I just see this as work. He sets my beer on the table in front of me, eyeing the book in my hand. I really don’t know what to say to all that as I wonder the same thing every day.

“I don’t know, honestly. I just know that if it wasn’t for Greta and you, even Knuckles, I don’t know where I would be. This place has changed me and I’ll never take it for granted,” I reply.

"I love that. Spoken like a true president, my man."

"Thank you," I respond, taking a sip of my cold beer.

“So, with all you said, when are you going to work on you? I know the club means a lot to you, but it can’t be everything. You ever going to settle down and start a family?”

"No. This club is my family. I work on myself every day by making it better and you are wrong, it is my everything. I have nothing or no one outside this club," I say in a serious tone.

"Okay, man. No offense. Just remember, life is a journey, and a journey isn't a journey without steps."

"Got it." I take another sip of my beer.

“What are you working on?” he asks.

I’m relieved at the change of subject. I wasn’t for sure how much longer I would have been able to sit there listening to Hawk talk about settling down and start a family.

“I was planning on going back to the casino to hunt for more clients. That place was filled with influential people, criminal and non-criminal. I’m hoping to pull more clients that we can pull security for, people that will help build our reputation and bank accounts.”

It has been a week since Enzo's escort and things have been great. Everyone is servicing their bikes, and filling their tanks, preparing themselves for the charity run tomorrow. Tank even went and bought himself a new cage with his part of the money.

"Yeah, that Enzo guy did us a solid. Which reminds me, what did you think of that girl he was with?"

"Whatever their relationship is and whatever happens between them is none of our business. All that matters is we got our money and people loved us. "

"No, seriously. She didn't look disturbed to you?" Hawk insists.

"So, what if she did? It’s not our problem.”

Though now that I think about it, she did seem restless and uncomfortable at the casino. When Enzo was kissing and touching her in front of everyone, she was trying to move away from him. Bending her over the table and spanking her was over-the-top humiliating for her, it looked like. From the rumors I’ve heard, she’s his sex toy. She hardly made eye contact with anyone and almost appeared as if she let him tell her what to do or who to speak to. Their relationship is none of my business, my focus is my club and my brothers.

"Whatever you say. You are the boss, Mr. Outlaw."

"Everything on the children's home event is set. Now all I need to do is make sure everyone is ready."

"Why don't you take a break sometime and live your life, man? Don't you ever get tired of dealing with the same shit every day?" Hawk asks.

"If I didn't have this club, I would be nothing. You of all people should know this. I appreciate your concern, buddy, but believe me, there's nothing I could do with my life that surpasses this."

"I long for the day I get to tell you I told you so."

"Keep dreaming." I take my beer bottle and head to the staircase, and my room. I need to look for homes and soon.

"It's not a dream. I will remind you of this day someday and you are going to wish you had listened to me sooner."

I raise my bottle above my head as a toasting gesture. The more he talks, the dumber he sounds. The word family to me means an excruciating pain, unbearable mental distress, and days and nights of dealing with a troubled heart, failed expectations, and broken promises. I am not ready to experience any of that ever again.

The club house is full that evening. That is how it usually is before and after events. I am seated by the counter as usual enjoying my ice-cold whisky. I don't know who usually invites them and I don't care but the clubhouse is always full of girls on such nights. All the ones still dreaming about a biker taking them home and making them theirs. I hate to tell them that these guys are only looking for a wet pussy to fuck for the night.

I take gulp of the remaining drink and gently tap the glass on the counter, letting Jim know I want a refill. My eyes are on the crowd, preying on my catch for the night. I am in a good mood just like everyone else and in the mood to invite a girl to my room. As they said, you can never have too much fun.
