CHAPTERTWELVE

Outlaw

“Why did you risk the club so you could save me? There are so many people out there who knew what I was going through but didn’t even say a word to defend me. You don’t even know me,” Everleigh says as the taxi driver accelerates away from the club.

“No one deserves to be treated like shit simply because they are not in a position to help themselves. I didn’t need a reason to help you, it was the right thing to do,” I respond.

“Wow. Thank you. I never knew people like you existed.”

“The world is full of so many different people and you will meet all of them.”

She sighs and smiles. She rests her head on the window and looks out at the town like it’s her first time in Tennessee. I was afraid she might not see the following day a free girl and I would lose the club but I beat Enzo. That moment will forever be burned in my brain.

I never wanted the bikers to see me in a suit. I, however, can’t explain to Everleigh that we should stop at Jim’s so I can change then go to the clubhouse. I know she doesn’t completely trust me and making such moves would only make it worse. I decide it’s better to deal with the bikers. This is the first time something like this has happened, they will understand. Hopefully.

The taxi driver pulls up and looks at the building with uncertainty, like he thinks I don’t belong here or with her. I pay him and he speeds off, probably scared of what might happen if he sticks around. I lead her inside to find it packed. I know it’s usually packed full of people, but for the first time, I’m not comfortable with so many people being here.

“Welcome to the Hades Inferno MC clubhouse,” I say as I lead her further in. She seems nervous and why wouldn’t she be? She is walking half naked into a room full of bikers.

“No one is going to touch you,” I assure her. She takes a deep breath and slowly starts walking.

I lead her straight to the staircase and she doesn’t object, she’s scared. She’s probably never been to this kind of party. I’m not going to make her stay.

“Outlaw,” Hawks calls when we are halfway up the staircase.

“You can go ahead. My room is on your right. I’ll join you shortly.” I point to my room and turn around to talk to Hawk.

“Is she the reason you couldn’t go to the meeting? And also, isn’t that Enzo’s girl?” Hawk’s voice is harsh. He doesn’t like it when someone takes any club activity for granted, especially not the president.

“Well, not any more. They broke up and she didn’t have anywhere to go. I was there and clearly, the only person concerned so I asked her to come spend the night here. So, no, she is the not the reason I skipped the meeting.” I delve in my pants pocket and take out the card that Jason gave to me.

“This is the reason. He wants to run for senator and wants us helping his campaign,” It’s not really a lie, but it’s not the whole truth.

“Since when do you go to club meetings wearing formal wear?” He gives my suit a glance over.

I roll my eyes. “I’m the fucking president. I think I know what to wear and formal was the requirement. I went hoping to grab some contacts before talking to you guys.”

“Who gave you this idea, again? The one to go to the casino—alone?”

“Enzo, of course. He told his buddies what we did for him and he asked me back to talk to them. I did just that. I don’t really think how I spend my free time is a concern of yours, but I did it for the club. How do you think I found out they broke up?”

“I’m sorry. You know this club still means a lot to me and I don’t like it when there’s a glitch.” I know what he means.

“I understand but you should know me better by now.”

“I do,” he says resting his hand on my shoulder, leading me to the counter.

“I knew something was up with Enzo’s relationship when I first saw them outside that casino. I am sure she got tired of being treated like shit.”

“Mm-hmm. The usual, Jimmy.” Jimmy gives me a concerned look as he pours whisky into a glass.

“Looking sharp tonight, Mr. Outlaw,” he says. I do not respond to his sarcastic comment. I am not in a mood to play his games.

“So, what do you plan on doing with her?” Hawks asks.

“Not fuck her,” I respond hoping to brighten the mood and hopefully change the topic too.

Hawk laughs. “That’s a starting point.”
