“Get your ass back inside,” I said as I crossed the parking lot.

She tilted her head to the side. “I’m not leaving.”

My fingers tightened around the large envelope. Meanwhile, Kat scaled the ladder attached to the building with a gun hanging over her shoulder. Antonio hunched behind the dumpster as backup.

Ivy had barely said a word to me since she’d kicked me out of my room. We needed to talk, but I planned to do it after I took care of her ex. I wanted to shelter Ivy from the information Antonio had given me. Brad was a bigger piece of shit than I’d realized, and I didn’t feel any remorse about handing his location over to the mob.

Brad had hidden millions of dollars in a Cayman bank account. Antonio’s team had accessed the money and moved it to an account in Ivy’s name.

Kat whistled and motioned toward the alley. We were out of time.

“After this meeting, you and I are going to have a long conversation. The first one is about your safety, and then we will hash out our past. I’ve given you enough time to stew.” I moved so Ivy was behind me.

“You can’t just make demands. I’ll get in my car and drive home.”

I’d figured she would try. Like how she’d had her son come get her from the house. I’d met with Justin at the diner and had a discussion with him after that. Justin had asked what he could do. I’d told him I was going to bring Ivy back to my house again.

“You can try,” he’d scoffed.

Ivy stomped her foot and opened her mouth, but a black Mercedes G Wagon pulled into the parking space. A tall, slender man dressed in a suit stepped out of the passenger side of the car. Lance and Vinnie got out of the car next.

“Boss, we got this,” Vinnie said.

“Gentlemen,” I said.

Louis crossed his arms over his chest. His gold watch glistened in the sun. “My business isn’t with you. I’m here to discuss an issue with Ivy. Seems she can’t pay her bills.”

I held up the envelope Antonio had given me. “Or I can tell you where the person is who owes you the money. But from my research, your men already know where he is. You're known for being tough but fair, as long as the person pays.”

The man’s lips pressed together. “Except she’s not paying. If you’ve heard I’m tough, my guess is you’ve heard I would rather see the person die than get cheated out of my money.”

Ivy tensed next to me and I grabbed her hand, not taking my eyes off Louis. “During my digging into you, those rumors came up. What I don’t understand is why you keep coming after Ivy, when your men know where Brad is.”

“I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about.”

There was a huge possibility he was telling the truth, especially since the two men behind him took a step toward the SUV.

Yep, the goons had been running their own scheme behind the big man’s back.

I dropped Ivy’s hand so I could rest it on my gun just in case I had to draw quickly. “From what I found, your two men meet with Brad once a week. They’re taking the money from Ivy and giving it to him.”

Vinnie shook his head. “He’s lying, boss. You going to believe some man over your own blood?”

Louis gripped the envelope. “As my cousin said, he’s blood. Why do you think I should believe a single thing you say? This could easily be all lies, and Ivy owes me millions.”

He kept his expression schooled, so I had no clue if he believed me or if he’d try to kill us.

“Doesn’t matter if he’s the pope. The information in there can’t lie. What I can’t understand is why you would allow your men to track down Ivy. She’s not even married to the piece of shit anymore.”

Lance placed his hand on the butt of his gun. “Boss, this man is lying. Let’s get the money and leave.”

Louis tapped his extravagant Italian leather shoes on the asphalt. “The man has a good point. You guys said you were collecting from a wife, not an ex-wife. You better talk fast, because I want answers. I didn’t want to fly down here.”

I stepped to the side, so Ivy was behind me. She shoved at my side, trying to move me. The mob boss could easily turn on us, using this as a ploy to distract me.

“I put photos and everything you need in the envelope,” I said.

He pulled the stack of information from the envelope. A few pieces of paper floated to the ground as he flipped through the pictures.
