“Correct.”

Hunter waited for me to ask another question rather than offer up helpful information. As if I was wasting his time.

“I also read that the onus is on him to prove he wrote the songs?”

“That’s right, but it’s going to be hard. You’re both on everything from what I understand…”

“So…”

“Listen, Drake-o, don’t worry. Honestly, these things typically get settled out of court. This is such a ‘he said, she said’ situation at the moment, you’ll just need to sit tight. You sent us all your hard drives and laptops, and we’ve been sifting through them to see if we can counter. You’re very organized by the way.”

I nodded.

“Just chill. Take some time off. We’ll let you know if we need anything.”

God, I wished I had Maeve right now. Our conversation way back when, us sitting on an elephant at Uyu, her eyes had sparked over this thing with Jay. She would have given me a reason to “chill,” because I’d have had an army of one. Hunter just directed me to do it because it got me off the phone more quickly and him down to the bar to sip a martini.

I’d let everyone down. I’d let Tae and Quinn down. Probably my mom. If Maeve and I ever crossed paths again, I sure as hell wouldn’t be getting Dixie’s blessing.

Fuck.

This was the beginning of the end.
