“Surely there is other magick than the mating that is good and pure and worth exploring?” Gwen shifted closer to me, leaning against my body and giving a small, almost childish yawn.

“Maybe…but toeing that line, Gwen, could mean the beginning of the end.”

“You’re a good man, Kaio.” She blinked, cocking her head to look up at me. “Do you say man about a male alien? I guess I’m an alien to you and you’re an alien to me. But is it still man and woman? Male and female?”

“You are a woman to me, and a female,” I chuckled, moving to make her more comfortable against me. Her body was warm and soft.

“I think I need to sleep for awhile,” she whispered, yawning a second time.

“Here,” I leaned over as far as I could, keeping one arm around her body so she didn’t fall over, and pulled the grass mat I’d woven closer.

She felt so good against me. So very good.

“Kaio?” her voice was suddenly more alert, as if she’d gotten a second wind and sleep could wait. “Do you really want me to mate with you? To come back to your planet and… and be your wife?”

I froze, wondering how I should respond. I didn’t want to scare her off.

Finally, I settled on the truth. “Yes. I do.”
