Hannah’s heart hadnearly jumped out of her chest when he’d said “let me be your boyfriend.” And then he’d quickly added that “fake” part. It didn’t matter about the disclaimer, though. Her bones still felt like jelly and she was a little breathless.

Hannah blinked and tried to form a response. She raised a brow. “My, um, fake boyfriend?”

The man who’d just given her the best orgasm of her life wanted to be her fake boyfriend.

He can never be your real boyfriend, Hannah. You know that. He made it very clear this was all just about sex.

“Yes? And sorry if I just made things weird.”

She thought about it for a moment, trying to play out in her head how this would even work.

“Do I get to keep the perks?”

“Perks?”

“Amazing orgasms. Make out partner at the ready.”

She didn’t miss his swift inhalation or the flaring of his nostrils. When he didn’t immediately answer, her stomach sank and her breath caught.

“I...” He seemed to choose his words deliberately, but there was a heated look in his eyes. “I would be down for that.”

“Good.” Just the idea of a repeat performance from earlier made her weak in the knees, so Hannah moved to the living room to sit on the couch. “How will this work?”

Eric followed her, thrusting a hand through his hair. “I can tell James a family member asked me to house-sit while they’re in Vegas. I just need to pack up a bag for the week.”

“Okay.”

“And then I can move in here for a bit?” He hesitated and sat down beside her. “Or however long you need me to?”

His gaze probed hers, clearly looking to see if she was okay with that, or if maybe he’d gone too far.

“I would honestly really appreciate that.” She bit her lip. “But I only have one bedroom.”

He shrugged and patted the cushion between them. “I can sleep here.”

Her laugh was full of genuine amusement. “No, Eric. Let’s not even pretend you’re going to sleep on the couch. You’re going to sleep with me. In my bed.”

There she was again, that overly confident woman who said things that would’ve made old Hannah blush to the roots.

His nostrils flared. “All right. I won’t argue with that.”

She hadn’t really expected him to argue, but even still, it sent a wave of relief through her. And then the tone of his voice just then. A little bit lower and raspier. So hot.

And so there it was, all in the open. She’d just signed up for a lover and a protector.

Way better than a gun, Sam. Guns can’t go down on you.

Eric caught her hand and stroked the top of her knuckles, making everything inside her grow warm and fluttery again. It was just like this continuous state now.

“Since we both have to work in the morning, I should probably go grab my stuff sooner than later.”

Oh hey, welcome back to reality.

She blinked and nodded. “Of course. If you want to run over, I’ll—”

“I don’t want to leave you alone, Hannah.”
