His hand tightened on hers. “Yes?”

She nodded, butterflies flapping about her stomach as her heart raced from his touch. She never thought she would feel this way again for someone who wasn’t Henry. But the attraction pulsing within her was unmistakable. “Yes.”

Bringing her hand up to his lips, Arthur placed a lingering kiss on her knuckles, his eyes never leaving hers. “You will never be alone, Amelia. I will not leave you wanting.”

Amelia closed her eyes and leaned her head against the column on the portico, remembering the moment Arthur had proposed and the hope she’d felt then. She’d believed him when he said he would never leave her wanting. She’d trusted him to be a man of his word.
