KAAV

Iclenched my asscheeks. Chief Hypatia was no cook. She’d done this kind of shit before. She’d been trained for this.

I was clenching my asscheeks though because of Weapons. I’d done something that Khetar never really do—I’d tasted her without planting my seed in her.

Normally nothing would interrupt the breeding urge after we’d tasted each other, but taking Weapons off of Thuliak’s ship had immediately triggered a series of events that had made it impossible to get more than seconds alone with her at a time.

I’d had time to simply get my seed in her if that had been the sole aim. I was from theInseminatorthough, and Weapons already meant too much to me to simply pump my seed into her as fast as I could. My DNA as anInseminatorwouldn’t allow me to release my seed in her unless she was fulfilled. The urge for my seed to spill out was intense, and thus my urge to please her grew and grew. Each time I looked at her, it took more and more willpower to pull my eyes back to the fucking pit viper across from me.

This woman, thischef, could choose to totally fuck me. Figuratively, of course. Sure, I was strong enough that I could rip her to shreds—and every other woman on this ship—but my Khetar DNA wouldn’t let me do that. I couldn’t kill a woman, not unless she were threatening to kill my mate or my offspring. So the Hive Mind had helped paint a really nice picture for me of just how dumb it would be for her to try to fight us, but if she just wanted to fuck me over personally, she still had the power to do it.

I still wasn’t too good at reading human faces, but I read Hypatia as not spiteful enough to sink herself just to sink me.

“So I got Weapons back on theEve’s Rib,” I said. “I’m being logical again, so hear me out. I’m also being very straight with you. We’ve both made it clear we could fuck each other over really hard—”

“Stop using phrases with that word in it,” Hypatia said, “we don’t understand those.”

I laughed. All the little phrases I’d gotten zapped into my brain from the Hive Mind were for “human standard” language in this cluster of systems, but Eden’s language had diverged a lot, specifically around words like “fuck” and “cock.” I had no clue why she called it adingdong? I’d have to ask Weapons about that when I got a chance.

I had the Hive Mind make the necessary adjustments to my language processing.

“We’ve both made it clear,” I said, “that we could do major damage to each other. You, Hypatia, to me, Kaav, that is. Not species-to-species. Humanity cannot damage the Khetar.”

“Yes, understood. ‘Fuck over’ means to damage, but maybe on a more personal level?”

I nodded, and Weapon’s smell hit me again. My neck was cramping up because the muscles were so tense. My body was trying to look at her, and my higher brain was fighting to keep my head pointed the other way so I could keep my eyes on Hypatia.

“Anyway,” I said, “so even though I could damage you a lot, instead of doing that, I’m going to freely give you information that will be extremely helpful to you.”

“It could be a trap,” she said.

“Here is the information,” I said. “You can choose to do with it what you want. You can negotiate with Thuliak. If you think of things that will actually help and benefit your people, things that would poll strongly with the women of Eden, then you can promise them those things in exchange for some semblance of resistance to the Khetar charms.”

Hypatia snorted. “Charms. You’re talking about your nearly supernatural sexual pull on over 98 percent of our planet?”

I nodded. “Yes. We’re quite charming.”

The Hive Mind hadn’t spoken to me again since we’d first arrived on theRib. I didn’t really want it to speak to me again either. I’d made a deal with it, a deal that it had upheld its end of. Now it was supposedly going to ask me for something. So long as it never spoke to me again, I could maybe forget it had ever happened. I was already wondering if it had really even happened. Maybe I’d just guessed the right route all along? As unlikely as that felt, it seemed more likely than the Hive Mind directly speaking to me.

The Hive Mind sure as shit wasn’t helping me out against Chief Hypatia.

“We can negotiate?” she asked incredulously. “That’s your big help?”

“I’m a spy,” I said. “I know what things Thuliak will likely agree to. I know things to ask him for that you’d never even think to ask him for.”

I risked a glance at Weapons, and I knew it was a huge mistake. My neck locked on her. I didn’t have the strength to pull my gaze away again. I felt my cock slap hard against my abs. A growl emitted from low in my throat.

Weapons wasn’t on her knees anymore—unfortunately—but she was now staring down at my cock with the widest eyes I’d ever seen on her. Her tongue slid out from between her lips, and she ran them across her lips from top to bottom. I heard her moan too, but she blushed and covered her mouth when she heard herself.

“Goddess,” Chief Hypatia said, “Kaav, what are you doing? Weapons? Goddess, come on, woman.”

Weapons took a step closer to me. Her lips were parted now. I could see her white teeth. I reached an arm out. She did too.

I pulled her up against me. The jumpsuit she wore felt like a foreign invader, something I needed to destroy as soon as possible, and once I did, I’d no longer be able to keep any line of communication open to Chief Hypatia.

“The urge to breed is too strong,” I said, unable to take my eyes off that wonderfully soft bone just above Weapons’ breasts. “We’ll have to cut this meeting short, Chief. But an example of what to ask for—I know it doesn’t helpyou—but it will help your people. You make it so the women have more control of the breeding. Each packship only has 10,000 Khetar. Even with a huge Breeding Swarm of 50 or 60 ships, there will never be enough Khetar men for each woman.”
