CHAPTER TEN

Haina

“What the fuck?” Zane bellowed.

“Don’t fucking play head games with her, you fucking animal. She told me what you were going toshowher before you were interrupted. She doesn’t deserve that. You’ve treated her like shit since we escaped the compound, and yet you thinkyou’rethe one that deserves …that.”

I swallowed as my ears strained to listen.

Zane’s heart rate had sped up, and Rix’s was off the charts. Even Jorik’s had picked up.

With a forced calm, born of severe shock, I sucked in a deep breath and listened to the sound of Rix descending the ladder once more. His face was a mix of anger and guilt as he sat down beside me on the bed.

I studied him beneath my lashes, counted his heartbeats, and marveled at how quickly they evened out and fell into rhythm with my own. His expression softened even more, and he leaned over and cupped the side of my face like he had a moment ago, this time bringing the scent of blood with him.

I grabbed his hand and pulled it from my face, studying his knuckles, which were torn up and bleeding. My eyes flew up to his. “What was that about?”

Rix’s jaw set tight. “Doesn’t matter.”

“It does. You just punched Zane—who nearly died today—and I deserve to know why.”

“Wildcat, you’ve had one hell of a day. Maybe you should just rest.” He went to cup my jaw again, but I swatted him away.

“I don’t need sleep. I need answers. You promised me you’d never lie to me, Rix.” I shimmied myself up the bed and away from his touch. As much as I was coming to realize how much their touch grounded me and helped me tune in and out the right sensations, it could also be muddling, particularly when I was confused like I was now. Their scent, their touch, and just the way they looked at me—like the way Rix was looking at me now—made me feel all kinds of things I wasn’t used to and sent my brain into a tailspin.

Rix’s shoulders slumped, then with a sigh, he yanked on my ankles until I was pulled down so I was lying on my back on the bed. Then he climbed up and lay down next to me. “Give me your hand,” he said, holding out his.

With a furrowed brow, I gave him my right hand.

“Good. Now open the button on your pants with your other hand.”

I did as I was told.

“Good. Now, I’m going to guide you on where to go and what to do. Because like fuck am I letting that asshole up there show you. He doesn’t deserve it, and you deserve better.” Pain streaked across his face for a moment. “You deserve better than all of us. But if you want to learn, then I’ll help you.”

I smiled at him as he guided my hand down below my pants.

His heart rate spiked again as our hands moved down. My fingers brushed my clit, and my hips jerked. Rix groaned and his eyes closed at the same time he ground his teeth.

But he kept pushing my hand farther down between my legs.

“Rix?”

“You need to push two fingers in here,” he said, his voice hoarse and gritty.

“Why?”

“Because that’s where a cock would go, and you need to know that the first time—the firstfewtimes—that it might hurt. I don’t want to hurt you. None of us do.”

I hadn’t realized that I’d closed my eyes, but when I opened them, I found him watching me. Sincerity in his gaze pierced my soul, and I melted.

“You need to play with yourselfhere,”he said, guiding two of my fingers into the wet, hot channel between my legs. “Push your fingers in here and use the other hand to rub your clit. Get yourself off. Learn your body.”

“Will you help me?” I asked, surprised at how rough and breathy my own voice sounded.

“You need to learn your body first, but if that’s what you want, I’ll help you.”

I smiled at him and blinked. “Thank you.”
