Still, honor demanded I give him a chance to right his wrong. “Come again?”

The man’s eyes were wide with fear now, his hands clawing at my fists. “Let me go—”

“I believe you said something to my woman over here, something very ungentlemanly. I would like you to rectify that.”

“Come on, man. I was just—”

“What is the meaning of this?” A stout man that I had already identified as Kayla’s manager walked forward, looking outraged at the scene. “Kayla, what is happening?”

“This idiot had the nerve to knock his chair into her,” I explained the situation. “And then he was dumb enough to call her a bitch.”

“She soiled my shirt!” the man spat, still wriggling in the air like the roach he was.

“That’s enough,” the manager said, turning to glare at Kayla. “I have taken as much as I can from you out of respect to the Romanos, but this is unprofessional behavior.”

“But I didn’t even—” Kayla started, then turned around. “You know what? It’s not even worth it. I quit. Now, let him go, please.”

She addressed the last part to me, imploring me with her gaze, and I raised my eyebrows. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I’m sure.”

“Cause I gotta tell you, honey, there’s a big part of me that wants to mess him up.”

“No, don’t do that. Come on, please. Let’s just go home.”

I stared at her and noticed something in her gaze. Something soft and warm and different. Was that an invitation?

Either way, I was taking it.

I dropped the asshole without further adieu and nodded. “Yes. Let’s go home.”
