The idea of hypnosis sounded like a load of bull until Harrison Russo opened his mouth.

His low and lulling voice never failed to make me shiver, especially the low notes. Every inch of me would freeze, taken to a realm where nothing existed but him.

Yeah, sounded weird. A little like a stalker-y fan-girl. But holy crap, his voice was freaking beautiful.

Of course, his looks definitely added to the appeal. With the reddish-brown auburn hair that glowed in the light, light freckles across his nose, and the world’s brightest smile, Harry was drop-dead gorgeous.

I wasn’t the only one who thought so. Tonight everyone flocked to Crushed Beanz, the best café in Hallow and home base for his band. Untapped Potential always drew a crowd, but tonight was next level. With each weekend gig, their fan base grew larger and larger, and eventually they would outgrow the café.

If they ever went on tour, I’dsobe a groupie.

Untapped Potential had three members: Natasha, the guitarist; Vincent, the drummer; Harry, the singer. Vincent worked the drumsticks expertly as the song went on, creating a beat that no one could keep from tapping their foot to. Natasha leaned into her microphone as she strummed her guitar, voice soft and harmonizing with Harry’s.

And Harry’s voice, well. We’ve already established how I felt about it.

“I just need one more shot at forever

Locked and loaded, give me a sign

Everyone says I should’ve known better

I swear I won’t waste my chance this time.”

I didn’t know any of the members too well, but I probably knew Vincent the best. Mostly because his new girlfriend, Addy Arden, and I had met earlier this past month. She sat across from me now, bobbing her head to the music, a slight smile on her lips as she watched her boyfriend. They’d been in a relationship for only a few weeks, and they were so cute together.

I still remembered the way Addy looked at him at one of the gigs—her whole “just friends” mantra might’ve worked if she hadn’t been undressing him with her eyes.

She’d be a groupie too.

“Thank you all for coming out tonight,” Harry said into the microphone once their song ended, and he rested his hand on the neck of his guitar. His words came out sounded tired, raspy after singing. “We’re Untapped Potential, and we’ll see you next weekend.”

“Don’t forget to follow us on social media,” Natasha cut in, like she did after every show. She’d pulled her dark curls out of her face into two low buns, which had begun to unravel during the set. “We’re almost to one thousand likes, so go check us out.”

Vincent twirled his drumstick, seemingly content to let them do the talking.

“Have a great night, everyone,” Harry called to the crowd once more.

And then the scratchy sound coming through the speakers clicked off. The night was over.

Addy angled her body back toward me, planting her elbows on the tabletop. “It’s funny to think that I ever spent my weekend nights any other way,” she said, her voice light and dreamy.

“You’ll never be able to go back,” I teased her, collecting my coat. “Not that it’s a bad thing when you’re dating the drummer.”

She gave me a small smile, leaning her head in her hand and peering at the remaining people. “Isn’t it crazy that more and more fans are staying after?”

The crowd had thinned, but there were still a considerable amount of people lingering, capturing the attention of each band member. I tried not to be obvious about it, but my gaze lingered on Harry. His back was to me, giving me the perfect view of the pretty girl he spoke with.

What would it be like if I went up to him? Just tapped him on the shoulder and said… Yeah, I got nothing.

“I should get going,” I told Addy, pushing up from the booth. “Tell Vincent they did great tonight for me.”

“You could tell the band yourself,” she suggested with a knowing grin, reaching up and pinching the material of her watercolor necktie.

I’d been coming to Crushed Beanz to listen to the band play for a few months now, and not once had I ever spoken to a member before the last few weeks. And even then, I only talked to Vincent because I met Addy.

Talking to Harry, the guy who left me speechless just by singing a simple note? I could never work up enough nerve.

Despite that, I winked at Addy. “Next time.”
