There’s only three other apartments on this floor. Just my apartment and two elderly neighbors. They’re both in their eighties.

Hmm…Maybe he didn’t hear me. One of our neighbors has suffered some hearing loss, and now she watches her TV with the volume ridiculously high. Maybe that’s what he heard earlier, just a loud TV.

“Gotcha,” he mutters cryptically before reaching into his pocket and pulling out his keys. Then he unlocks his apartment door and goes inside.

Gotcha? What’s he mean by that?

As soon as his door closes behind him, I turn around and lean my back against my door.

Phew! What a rush that was!

It’s always a rush to spy on my sexy neighbor. But today was extra adrenaline filled because at one point it was almost like he was staring right at me.

Beep…beep…beep…beep!

Oh shit. My phone alarm is ringing. That can only mean one thing: I’m running a little late for work.

I quickly fix my hair in the mirror, and then I apply some mascara and lip gloss.

Damn. I better get moving here.

I became so immersed in Wyatt that I lost track of time.

Focus, Gemma. Focus! Time is ticking away so fast.

With a hurried glance at my reflection in the mirror, I notice how flushed my face is. I’m always amazed to see how much I blush for Wyatt. Heck, it’s not like we spoke. In fact, we’ve never spoken a word to one another. If he were to speak to me, I’d probably faint from shock.

Glancing down at my heart print cardigan sweater, I huff a laugh at myself. I’m invisible to men, especially when I wear outfits like this. I do it for the kids, though. My second graders always get a kick out of their teacher matching her sweaters with whichever holiday we’re celebrating at the moment.

Tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day, so I decided that we’re going to be making 3D heart-shaped Valentine’s Day cards in class today. I’m also going to surprise my students with Valentine’s Day stickers and candy. They’re going to be so happy. I swear that when my students smile at me, it’s like the whole world brightens up.

Shit. I’d better get going before it gets any later!

In a flash, I put my coat on and grab my favorite scarf, draping it over my neck. Then I grab my purse and exit my apartment. Next, I grasp my keys and lock the door. Right now, I’m running so behind schedule that I—

Uh-oh.

I hear Wyatt’s apartment door open with a creak. I know it’s his door because I’ve memorized the sound that it makes. Then I hear the chains on his biker boots jingle.

Clink…clunk…clink…clunk…clink.

The sound gets closer and closer until he stops right behind me.

What’s happening right now?

My breath freezes in my lungs and my eyes pinch shut.

Should I run back inside my apartment?

I can’t turn around and look at him. Heck, I can’t even say hi to him. In fact, I always hide my eyes from him, even at the risk of seeming rude.

I just know that if I were to lock eyes with him, he’d see how much I want him. Then a ray of love would fly out of my chest toward him like a Care Bear Stare.

“Love, love, love…” a sexy-as-sin voice whispers from behind me.

Nope, that didn’t happen. I must be hearing things.

With renewed determination, I rush over to the elevator and stab my finger on the call button.
