Shit!That didn’t make any sense.

He looked between Schuman and Tanner. “Mr. Sweet, could you help Harper get her sweater out of the back? So she isn’t…”

“Lemony,” his wife supplied.

Double shit.

Maybe she’d go catatonic again. He could only hope.

“I’d be happy to help.” Schuman handed him the container with the cookies, then guided Harper to the back of the Lamborghini.

He pegged Tanner with his gaze. “You should have mentioned the lollipops weren’t regular candy.”

Tanner removed his beanie and ran his hands through his hair. “Totally, dude. I’m crazy sorry, man. That’s why I left my appointment with Mary Jane and rushed over. I wanted to make sure Harper was okay. I can’t believe this happened again.”

“Again?”

Tanner flinched. “Yeah, man, again. Back in Kringle Mountain, where I’m from, I left a bag of medicinal gummy bears out, and a lady hoovered the whole thing.”

“Was she okay?”

“Yeah, but if you couldnotmention this little lollipop mix-up to Bridget and Soren, you know, the Cupid Bakery CEO and her husband, I’d be grateful.”

There had to be a story behind that admission, but he didn’t have time to ask as Schuman returned with Harper by his side.

He took in his wife.

“This is the quiet cardigan,” she whispered.

If she could stay in this quiet cardigan zone, they might get through the competition.

Things were looking up.

But just as the thought crossed his mind, a grating voice sliced through the air and sent the hairs on the back of his neck on end.

“I’m so glad you love my hit song, ‘Every Time You Break My Heart.’ I’m stoked to join the lineup. Keep fighting the good fight and vibe on.”
