“FYI, heartthrob,” she said and tossed him a flirty wink. “After I make sure our little music prodigy niece is fast asleep, there’s a good chance I’ll be in the bath. All alone in that big tub,” she mused, the naughty vixen, then sailed through the room toward the staircase.

A hot bath with the woman of his dreams was precisely what the doctor ordered.

First, he had to take care of business.

He started for his study when the butler picked up a file from the counter. “A courier left this for you,” he said, handing it over.

Panic rippled through his chest, edging out the warmth.

He set off for his study and cracked open the manilla folder, and his anxiety intensified. He peered at the mess of lines and curves. Damn, his damaged brain! He’d figured out a color-coding strategy for making music, but he’d relied on the OpenDyslexic font for reading.

How was he supposed to go over the contract?

He closed the file, entered the study, and sank into the chair at his desk. He pinched the bridge of his nose and stared at the blinking light on the phone.

Just get through the call.

He hit the button and engaged the speakerphone. “This is Landon Paige.”

“Mr. Paige, this is Paxton Cleary.”

Paxton Cleary? Why did that name ring a bell?

“We met a little over a month ago when you and your wife signed the contracts to participate in theCelebrity Bake or Bust Challenge.”

There it was.

“Yes, I remember, but aren’t you an attorney for Luxe Media and Entertainment?”

“I am.”

“I was told this was a call from my record label.”

“It is. Mr. and Mrs. Luxe have acquired your label. The details haven’t been made public yet. But we notified your manager late last night. However, we haven’t heard back.”

“She’s had some medical issues. She’s indisposed at the moment.”

“Ah, well, Mr. Paige, we’d like to act quickly.”

He glared at the folder. “Regarding?”

“Two items, sir. But before we begin, I was told by your staff that there was an issue with your internet. We usually do these things electronically, but we’ve taken other steps due to the urgency of the situation. Did you receive the paper copy of the contract via courier?”

He opened the folder and stared at the sea of infuriating squiggles. “I’m looking at it now.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Luxe are excited about the new direction you’re taking with your music.”

His anxiety dialed back a fraction. “That’s good to hear.”

“They’d like you to perform at Red Rocks Unplugged. Are you familiar with the event?”

Hell yes, he was familiar with it.

“I know all about it and accept their invitation.” He couldn’t wait to share the news with Harper. The trepidation welling in his chest receded.

What a night!

“Is the paperwork you sent over for Red Rocks?” he asked. If it was, he didn’t have to worry about deciphering each line.
