But he knew better.

He smiled at the woman who’d guided his career. “Yeah, I know,” he answered as a flood of emotions rushed through him.

Christ, he needed a drink—or ten.

He set off for the main lobby and took in the scene. The Luxe Grandiose lived up to its name. This sprawling area was its own self-contained clubbing district, glittering in a sea of lights and buzzing with activity.

A man could get into a hell of a lot of trouble here.

And that’s what he wanted.

He exhaled a slow breath, but that didn’t quell the storm within.

It was like standing beneath a waterfall as a deluge of obligations and unknowns threatened to take him under. He rolled his head from side to side, working out the tension in his neck, when a pulsing techno beat drew him in.

It called to him like a siren’s song.

Or maybe it wasn’t the thrum of the bass calling to him but an actual siren.

He passed the wedding chapel and tattoo parlor and made a beeline toward the dance club, hardly able to believe what was right in front of him. His heart hammered in his chest as he trained his gaze on an enchantress.

A petite enchantress with dark wavy hair and curves that wouldn’t quit.

No damned way.

The flashing lights in the club bathed the dancing beauty in shades of blue, green, red, and purple.

As if he were in a trance, he sauntered past a cluster of people, then stopped on the edge of the dance floor.

His heart was ready to beat itself out of his chest.

It couldn’t be her, could it?
