“Please, Noah. You have to stay with me.” Tears clogged my throat and made my words shake.

Alek dropped to his knee beside me, curling one arm around my waist and holding me steady. Infusing me with his strength.

Kingston paced, fury causing him to tremble with the need to shift. I felt it, my own wolf wishing for freedom. He looked at me, eyes on fire. “I’ll kill them all for you. I’ll burn them to the fucking ground.”

My heart stuttered, his promise of vengeance doing more for me than all his earlier declarations.

Not giving me a chance to respond, Kingston stood in front of me, facing the crowd and giving one sharp jerk of his chin before shifting into his wolf.

Caleb strode smoothly to the door he’d locked and tore the bar out of the handles, opening the tall doors and readying the exit for the wolves. Letting out one terrifying howl, Kingston took off. One by one, the rest of the shifters followed suit, their cries joining his.

Tears streamed down my cheeks as Noah’s lips didn’t move. I stared at Alek, pleading with him silently for help. “Can you do anything?”

“Like what? I don’t...”

“Help him. Heal him like you did with me.”

“That’s not how my power works.”

“How do you know?”

“I don’t... feel for him the way I feel for you, Sunny.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, too overwhelmed by my fear to process anything else. Tears splashed from my cheeks and onto Noah’s too-still face, making him appear like some kind of weeping angel.

As I used my free hand to brush away the tears, I felt it. The first pull of his lips against my skin. If not for Alek’s arm around me, I would have toppled over, so great was my relief.

“Noah?” I whispered.

One of his hands darted to my arm, gripping hard and holding me to his mouth. His brow furrowed, eyes still closed, and he groaned as his fangs bit into my skin and that gentle pull became a deep, desperate draw.

I wasn’t expecting the pain. The last time he drank from me had been nearly orgasmic, but this time it burned, feeling like he was tearing through skin and vein and ripping me apart.

“Noah,” I protested, trying to pull free. “Noah, you’re hurting me.”

Alek tensed, preparing himself for a fight. I could sense it in the way he moved. But Noah’s eyes fluttered open, those amber irises clearing as he recognized me and came back to himself.

He released me as though I’d struck him, sitting up and running a hand over the place where he’d been stabbed. The skin was smooth and unmarred; not a trace of the deadly wound remained.

“You saved me, Sunday.” His voice was filled with awe, as if he couldn’t quite believe I’d do such a thing.

“Of course I did,” I said with a watery laugh. “I fucking love you. I’m not ready to lose you yet. We’re just getting to the good stuff.”

He cupped my face and stared hard into my eyes. “I fucking love you too.”

His tender fingers trailed down my neck and to the ruined sleeve of my dress before turning over my arm as he examined my wound. “Let me take care of you now,” he whispered.

He raised his thumb to his mouth, pricking it with one razor-sharp fang and reverently wiping it over my wrist. Warmth spread across the torn flesh as it began to knit together, taking all lingering pain with it.

“You killed Callie?” I asked, my focus drifting to the beheaded vampire corpse at our feet.

“She had it coming. No one tries to harm my mate and lives to tell the tale.”

“It wasn’t me she was after. You’re the one who had the hole in his chest.”

“Make no mistake, dove. You were her true target. I saw it in her mind.”

The thought sobered me. “I knew she hated me. The feeling was entirely mutual. But enough for this? Tonight could have ended so much worse. So many innocent people could have died. And for what? Petty jealousy?”
