ChapterFive

SUNDAY

Was there a bird in my room? Multiple birds?

“Moira,” I groaned, “leave the tweety birds alone.”

I squeezed my eyes shut against the sunlight pouring in through my window. I ached. My limbs were heavy and everything felt... weird. Not to mention my hips felt like they’d spent the night riding a mechanical bull. Without a break. For hours.

“Did we go to a cowboy bar last night?” I muttered, hoping Moira would get the hint and magic me up some coffee.

“Nope, but you definitely took me for a ride.” Kingston’s voice brought me out of my sleepy haze. His large, warm palm wrapped around my waist, tucking me into his very naked body.

His very nakedawakebody.

I jerked upright, scooting away from him and that pierced weapon of ass destruction, not paying any attention to the pine needles embedded in my skin.

“Where the fuck are we? Why are you naked?”

Smirking, he cocked a brow. “You’re naked too.”

Instinctively I covered my bits as well as possible and tried to force my gaze away from... what had he named his dick? Jacob?

He groaned, sitting up and putting all those delicious muscles on display as he ran a hand through his tousled hair. “Oh, come on, Sunshine. It’s too early for that shit. Don’t start playing the amnesia game with me again.”

“I’m not playing a game...”

“Don’t worry. It’ll come to you. The first couple of times the wolf takes hold can be rough.”

Oh, God. The wolf. I shifted.

Closing my eyes, I let the memories wash over me. It had been so strange to give over control to her, to let her out. My consciousness was still there, but it was like I’d been in the backseat of my own mind, forced to watch as someone else took the wheel. I could hear her thoughts—my thoughts?—merging with my own. They were primal. Raw. Intense. Everything in me driven by instinct and need. There was no logic. No rationalization. Just living completely in the moment.

I blushed.

One long, neverending sexual moment.

How many times had I come last night? How many times hadKingstonmade me come?

He snickered. “There it is.”

Turning away, I stalked through the forest, no idea where I was headed but desperate to put some space between the two of us. The fleshy part between my neck and shoulder throbbed.

I lifted my hand, gingerly inspecting the area and wincing as the soft contact brought a deep ache and then a ripple of unexpected pleasure. I would not groan in front of an aroused werewolf.

“That’s my mark, baby. You like it, don’t you?”

I glared at him. “You mean Noah’s mark.”

“Not anymore. I’m your mate. My bite overrides any other. And just to be sure, I put mine right over his. Think of it like a new tattoo covering up the mistake you made.”

“Fuck off, Kingston. You didn’t get rid of my bond with him.”

The air shifted as he approached, one hand sliding around my throat, his jutting cock pressing into the small of my back. His lips brushed the mark, and I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop my moan.

“I claimed you, and you loved it.”

“I wouldn’t go that far,” I grumbled, shoving out of his arms. “More like a lapse in judgment. A moment of weakness. Something that will never happen again.”
